Glasto's too 'middle class' for Maiden - Bruce
Glasto's too 'middle class' for maiden - Bruce 31/05/2014 ~ by Stef Lach (from Classic Rock magazine) Frontman Dickinson vows he'll never follow Metallica to Worthy Farm Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson has vowed he'll never follow Metallica to the Glastonbury festival – and he's slammed the Worthy Farm event as "middle-class" and "bourgeois." James Hetfield and co were this month confirmed as headline act on June 28 – a week before they and Maiden both top the bill at Sonisphere. But Dickinson tells the Daily Star: “Personally I have no interest in going to Glastonbury. In the days when Glasto was an alternative festival it was quite interesting. Now it’s the most bourgeois thing on the planet. "Anywhere Gwyneth Paltrow goes and you can live in an air-conditioned yurt is not for me." He claims the BBC send "thousands" of people to cover that festival and adds: "They can't be arsed to turn up to Sonisphere or Download with a camper van and a hand-held." The vocalist continues: "We’ll leave the middle classes to do Glastonbury – and the great unwashed will decamp to Knebworth, drink a lot of beer and have fun.” Dickinson yesterday revealed he'd take part in a World War I dogfight re-enactment in the sky above Soniphere just hours before Maiden perform.

Because nothing says "working class" more than fencing and aviation.

Same sort of thing happened to the Bonnaroo festival in TN. It started out as a "jam band" festival. Now they have charter busses to ferry people back and forth from Nashville hotels. They have an area set aside for RV rentals, they set up the RVs, you rent them for a LOT of money. Last year, maybe the year before McCartney played it... it has become completely corporate. I think the best festival anywhere close to me is probably the one the Allmans put together in N. FL on the Suwanee River. We are too busy being "middle class" in April to go... Bonnaroo completely lost it's personality... it is ALL about the money now. I imagine it is the same at Glastonbury... money took over. BTW, I see what he is saying now. I asked in the other thread because I wasn't sure. J

To be honest I have zero desire to go to any music festival. If I'm going to sleep in a tent then its going to be surrounded by mountains and lakes and forests, not thousands of loud mouthed Millenials with generic tattoos, piercings and body odor squealing with laughter because it's their first time on acid, as the wind carries a cacophony of 4 different bands playing in 4 different keys past my ears and someone dies of a heroin overdose in the Ambient Teepee.

Nice to know that the guy who flies around in his own jet is so determined to keep it real.

Bruce Dickinson net worth: 115 Millions USD. Yeah, keep it real, Bruce... You've got to hate having fans who did well for themselves and managed to earn a semi decent living, which, by comparison to Dickinson's wealth, is mere pocket change.

The term "champagne socialist" comes to mind.

I remember seeing him perform when he was still called Bruce Bruce. I've never liked the bloke to be honest, he comes across as a bit of a tool. Maybe him and Lars would make a great duo. And as a singer, I've never quite understood his appeal; Di'Anno was more 'real'/'genuine', and Blaze is a much better singer. I've always believed Dickinson's popularity among the majority of Maiden fans is actually down to him being in the right place at the right time. Harris's songwriting hit a sweet streak on The Number Of The Beast and as Bruce happened to be the singer at the time, his place was cemented. Either Di'Anno or Bayley would have made a far better job of it though, in my humble opinion.

I think this Tufnel/St. Hubbins/Smalls classic sums it up: Late afternoon in the open air; A human sea made out of mud and hair. Ain't nothing like a festival crowd: There's too many people so we play too loud. [snip]
We hit the stage, with rock and rage And do our best to earn the maximum wage. The lights are ****, the sound's for the birds, Don't know the music and we don't know the words but still we're
