Glitchy playback of audio- Core I7 system that's tweaked to high-heaven...theories please?

Hey there everyone.

Frustrating audio glitchiness is getting on my migraine-laced nerves.

I'm sure I have a good system that has been tweaked (as per the Win 7/64 thread somewhere on here) to the nth degree, less some of the things suggested like 'disable Aero' and 'Adjust for Best Performance' (re video).

But here's my problem:  When I got o do any visual expanding of say, a track's height (so I can see what's in the FX-Bin, etc.) I get the first glitch - an audio interrupt something akin to a quick, scratch like sound ...a pop..what have you.  But then this same sound might randomly occur a little later for no apparent reason (my mouse is still - no tweaking mid playback).  It hasn't made my recording impossible, but I have to listen very carefully at playback for any takes that got 'glitched'.  Fortunately, it's mainly a playback issue where I really notice it.

How much more tweaking do I need?  I've seen some here argue that I shouldn't HAVE to disable AERO and/or adjust for best performance (visually) on an HQ system such as mine.  Am I off here?

If anything here 'pops' in someone's mind, I'd really love the help.  I'm going to lay down for a bit to ease my migraine woes and come back to see what y'all have diagnosed in the meantime - and THANK YOU SO MUCH in advance!  This board and its members is something I could not have survived without!

Looking forward to thoughts, ruminations, excogitations...etc.

Truly me,
IMAGO DEI

In quick summary, here's what I've attempted to solve the issue to no avail:
1) defragged using Diskeeper
2) Have updated my video card(s) and audio card drivers.
3) Run Auslogics System boost to clean up crap
4) Adjusted Page File System properly and Disabled all non-essential windows services
5) Turned off Virus & Malware Scanners (after thorough scan in Safe Mode to see if there's any bugs)
6) Turned off: onboard sound (Bios), system restore, write caching on all drives, indexing, all the other stuff mentioned in the tweaking guides...
7) I have NOT adjusted anything in the SONAR defaults to try and overcome this, 'cause I'm not sure what I'd be doing.  I currently record at 24bit/44.1khz and use the multiprocessing engine, 64-bit Double precision engine.

Have you tried the 32bit version of sonar 8.5.3 to see if it happens there?
has this always happened with this system/setup or has it just started happening?
have you tried disabling the multiprocessing (I know - I wouldn't want to do that eihter, but try and see if it does anything).

have you tried testing your memory?  win7 has a memory checker built in.

I"m not famililar enough with the CPU's and what they mean - are you overclocking the i7?  (probably not, but had to ask).

    have you updated your bios?

You don't want to disable aero.  Aero off loads the video processing from the cpu onto your graphics card.

Hi there.  Thanks for the responses guys.

    May have found the problem.

I hadn't had the above-noted problem for 6 months or more on the new system (purchased in July 2010), but suddenly, after I updated to the Windows 7 SP1 update, I had the problems!  One of the updates I also 'subscribed' to as suggested by Windows was for a nVidia driver.  Either one of these, I'm betting, are the culprit.  I restored a drive image from a month ago (Acronis - what a LIFE SAVER!!!!) and the problem wasn't there.  My C-Drive image was done prior to the updates aforementioned and a few new plugs I poked into the system as well just over the last few weeks.  Have just updated - one-at-a-time - all the plugs that I had wanted and tested them.  All fine and working great.

The only other thing I can think of was my upgrading to the most recent Auslogics Boost Speed.  Could it have fudged the registry on one of its cleanup missions?

Lastly - the guitar plugin by OVERLOUD - the TH2 could be suspect.  I tried running the update Overloud provided and I had some real serious issues - complete freezes and lockups that had actually misaligned the WAVES plugs I had in my projects.  I'd call up R-com and get L3.  I'd try to call up Vocal Rider and get R-Comp.  Some weird programming in that plug (64 or 32 bit).  Yes - tried using jBridge and Bit-Bridge and neither worked.  I don't recommend TH2 after this, that's for certain!

Wondering if anyone else noted something stinky in the Service Pack 1 update from Windows?

Oh - I'm not going to go a tweakin' anything else.  ABDFI principle in play! (Ain't Broke, Don't Fix it!)

I know the Windows 7/64 tweak thread had some great ideas, but it's not worth it...got things going great for now.

Time for an updated drive image before another lick of work is attempted!

    Best to all, thanks again,

Auslogics could have caused a problem, but I would hate to think that it was the culprit.  if so then it's not a very good registry cleaner.  I've never used it myself.

I don't know anything about TH2, I've never used it either.

but SP1 for win7 I installed as soon as it was available and didn't have any problems.  I don't have the same video cards you do - I currently have an ATI Radeo 4500.
