Global Freeze would be nice, but what's THIS I just did?
So, I've been begging for a Global Freeze function, as a few others have. Here's what I found interesting. In ONE Project (just one), I managed to select all my Tracks, hold Ctrl+Click Freeze button, and voila!! In turn each of all the selected tracks FROZE!! Exactly what I needed! However, it only worked on one project. Any of the other projects I tried, it didn't. It's like it was a feature that can easily work, but isn't reliable with the Ctrl+Freeze action.
Would this be something that should be possible, and if not, it seems like it's 99% there, already! Can that make it into the next Release?

Quick Group Freeze was implemented last September. Check the eZine for more info; Quick Group Freeze has worked with every project where I tried to use it.

Ok, thanks. There may just be something wrong with multiple projects I have, then. It's certainly nice to have when it works for me.

Is there a way I can tell if Sonar is even receiving my Ctrl+Click on the Freeze button, and if so, why it isn't happening? I can single click one Freeze button, and that works, but not always Ctrl+Click.

I, too, have long wished for a group freeze function. However, the current implementation doesn't work reliably for me. It'll work once and then refuse to work again. I've tried it again just now. Here's what I did: 1. Select 3 MIDI tracks via ctl-click 2. Ctl-click the Freeze button 3. All three tracks freeze as intendend (yay!). So far, so good. 4. With the same three tracks still selected, ctl-click on the Freeze button again 5. Nothing happens. The tracks are not un-frozen as expected. 6. De-select the tracks and unfreeze each of them the normal way 7. Re-select the same three tracks 8. Ctl-click on the Freeze button 9. Nothing happens. The tracks are not frozen. 10. Close the project without saving, then re-open it 11. Duplicate all of the above steps; ctl-click on the Freeze button does nothing in any of the steps, including the very first 12. Completely shut down SONAR and repeat the above steps 13. After restarting SONAR, the initial group freeze works again but not subsequent attempts - until SONAR is restarted Perhaps some internal flags are not being reset, confusing SONAR about their frozen state.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Does it have something to do with not obeying the Quick Group rules about what is selected and is not selected? IIRC they're pretty strict, e.g., what happens if you try to Quick Group with a track that's selected vs. one that's not selected.

I don't. No feedback, no updates, no idea if it was a good submission, and little to no incentive to be exhaustive in testing. Not to downplay the correct way of doing things, I just get the impression it's all going to a dusty old Pentium in a corner of the room, and never checked unless they run out of features to implement. Now, I know that's just not true, but the Bug submission procedure feels more like writing code. If it's not correct, it errors out with no feedback, and goes to a black hole. If someone looks at it, they may just decide I'm an idiot and move on. No questions asked. In the forum, at least I can get some idea if I'm the only one having this problem or not. :)

Makes no difference. Same behavior as described in my previous post, regardless of any variables I could think to try. If it's just picky, and requires a very specific sequence, I'm good with that. I'll learn the secret algorithm! Now, if I could just figure out what it is. ampfixer: you're right, shame on me for not opening a ticket. I guess I figured that since I'd managed without this feature since, well, forever, it wasn't worth complaining about.

Maybe this will help: The following rules apply when using Quick Groups. * Quick Groups only affect tracks of the same type (Audio or MIDI). * For instrument tracks, the relevant controls is treated as belonging to an Audio or MIDI track. * Quick Groups do not work between tracks and buses. * Quick Groups apply a relative adjustment to each control. * If you adjust a control in a selected track, only selected tracks of the same type are affected. * If you adjust a control in a non-selected track, all tracks are affected.

Yeah, all that makes sense. Now, the manual says you can use Quick Groups for a lot of different things, it doesn't list that Freeze is one of those things. So, I questioned whether it was a real 'thing' or not.

I think I'm satisfying those requirements, Craig. I open a project and before doing anything, select three adjacent MIDI tracks within the same track folder. I verify that I have created a Quick Group by holding the CTL key down while changing the velocity offset slider and watching them all move together. I can then hold the CTL key down and click the Freeze button, and all three instruments freeze as expected. After that, nuttin' -- until I shut down SONAR altogether and restart it. It's not enough to close and re-open the project. After restarting SONAR I can then create the group, CTL-click the Freeze button and they will un-freeze as expected. But to re-freeze them I'll have to shut down and restart SONAR again. Admittedly a wild guess, but I still think SONAR is hanging on to some internal state flag, such as a flag that indicates a freeze is in progress or something.

Wouldn't it be cool to right-click on one track, select Copy Channel, then Quick Group a few other tracks, Ctrl + Right-click and select Paste Channel to have all the settings, plug-ins, I/O, and ProChannel FX syncronized from that source track?
