Global Mute

..Is there a hot key for this?  I cannot find my button, seeing how I never use it

I don't think there is ... At least, I've never come across one.
You could stop the audio engine, I guess - there's a toolbar icon for that (not sure where - not at my DAW currently)

Just mute your master bus.

On my Sonar 7 there is a global mute that mutes all the tracks.  I havent used it since then, didnt know if I was missing something or they just did away with it in 8.5

In you main toolbars the M S R toolbar will do that. If you don't have that toolbar active it is PLAYBACK STATE in View - Toolbars menu.  Down side of using it is if you have any tracks muted it will unmute them all when you toggle it back off.  It doesn't remember the previous track states.  It also does not mute any buses.

If you have your outputs directed through buses that would be the most effective method(muting buses) if you have some tracks muted.

Thanks LorneyB Playback state was it!  I am aware of what it does and the downsides which is why I never use it, however,,,there is a time and a place for everything (except mayonnaise and bacon)
