Gloucester Win 7 vs 10 and drivers

Does the Gloucester update apply only to Windows 10 users? Or is it compatible with previous OS like 7 & 8?
If I decided to move to 10 I may have to rethink my studio layout, as I have a couple of pieces of gear that I feel are critical, but no longer supported. Johnson J-edit librarian  for the J station is completely unsupported, since Digitech swallowed Johnson whole in the early 2000s. Midisport 8x8/s is my midi patch bay, and I feel lucky to have been able to get it to even function under Win 7.
Do you just have to install the OS and figure out whether it will run these legacy devices and their drivers, and if it craps out just roll back? Is there anything in Windows 10 that assists you in making these devices work , like the "run as" feature in 7?
I can think of nothing more monumentally time wasting than attempting  to install a new OS "just to see if it works" if I don't have any real reason to do so. Contrarily, I can think of nothing LESS time wasting than moving away from a system that inevitably will become obsolete.

If you only have the one machine you are not able to try out things and see if they will work. One neat thing about Windows 10 is how easy it is to revert back to 7 if you need to. I can't advise you on this, its up to you.
I would try it though to see what my future is going to be. I am sold on Win 10.

... unless you do dual boot operating systems. Easy enough to do but must install win 7 or 8 first before you can upgrade. The license should be tied to the machine if all goes correctly.
