Going to be recording a demo for a broadway singer

Any suggestions here? I might be able to borrow some equipment from the local music store...

    What's to borrow?  A good mic, preamp, compressor, comfy atmosphere....and you're good to go.

    This is really the kind of thing you want to be prepared for in advance. If you have to borrow or rent the equipment..... that screams Amateur ..... and then, assuming you get the gear, and singer,  you are trying to do a top quality job on gear that you do not know...... very difficult to pull that off.

    My advice is be prepared ahead of time, have the gear, and have some experience in recording, mixing this kind of session.

    You only get that experience by doing it now..... so when the next opp comes along... you're ready to go.
