Gone Tomorrow

Music I originally wrote for Robby’s (Missing Person) lyrics…
I decided to write my own lyrics and record my own vocal tracks…
I would appreciate any constructive criticism, and/or feedback on my song:

No criticism on my part --- constructive or otherwise.  Great song!  Your vocals are wonderful, the instrumentation (especially the guitar playing) is great, and the mix is terrific.  The harp was a real addition to it all.  A very professional production.  I did notice what I thought was a bit of background noise near the beginning but I have really crummy equipment so it might be on my side.
    Great job --- as usual.

you got a nice powerful  bluesy voice. good job. The music is very creative. I like the bluesy Jazzy  feel. Great words and it fits perfect in the mix,

Way to go--getting double time out of one song.  Great idea...cause it was a great song to begin with.  I can't remember who's playing the sax on this...he's great!  And as usual your performances are top-notch!

This was great the first time...and great the second time! :-)

Very smooth sounding tune!... Everything sounds beautiful.  My only criticism is that the lead guitar tends to sound like it is in different room from the rest of the instruments.  Nice stuff.

I knew that tune as soon as I heard it. Don't tell robby, but I think I like your lyrics better.

So the tune is very recognizable which is always a good thing.

    Well done

Oh... what have you done now. A very sweet swingny groovy vibe. Man, your vocs are... incredible. Autotune used just right (subtle and barely noticeable). Love your harmonies arrangement. I thought you were going to pop a button at around the 2:23 mark and again at 3:40. Energetic and confident, as you should be. The lead licks are hot. Is there anything left to squeeze out of that poor sax player? Keys are solid. Mix is excellent. Especially excellent. Using some new something? Or you're just getting too darn good. Bravo!

Frank,    I love the chord modulations.   Nice song.    That sax is great.   Who is playing?   YOU??????????????   (If it's you don't tell me, I can't take it)

Super warm smooth mix on these speakers  (low volume at work but clear as a bell on all levels.)

Wow!!! Sounds GREAT!!  Sweet mix, very nice vocals... and man that sax!!! And as far as the drums... that's usually the only criticism I have on any of your songs, but on this one I think they sound really nice! Superb job, buddy...

Only thing I think could make this sound better is a group of female soul singers backing you up on the "Come Tomorrow" line (sort of like Steely Dan's "Babylon Sisters")...  so get on that, m'kay??

Well, I wouldn't call them better... It's just that Robby's words were used in several different songs, by others here... (and I really wanted 100% of the song rights)

I really loved Robby's original vocal track, and if he ever talks to me again, maybe we'll collaberate again in the future...

That said, I had this lyric idea, and I had to use it somewhere... ... ...

    Thanks Ron...

there is something about this tune that gives it such
personality. everything sounds very good.  there are some
organ parts where the distortion is more noisy than truely
    distorted.

I guess im saying it doesnt sound like real hammond
distortion. I struggle with my hammond vst on the
distortion subject. on one hand i like using it. on the
    other it has artifacts.

that makes me wonder. could a person send the organ
out to a real amp with overdrive and record that?

using "voiced" horns to do your background/harmony
vocs instead might sound cool. well done frank. great job

This sounds fantastic, Frank.  Your vocal is great and your guitar playing just kills.  The sax is also outstanding and the harp is the icing on the cake. Really like the chord progression and the arrangement, too.

You've got a very distinctive sound to your mixes.  You have a number of songs in a variety of styles and, while you always successfully achieve the style you're going for, in the end it always sounds like you.  I think that's probably what we're all striving for...

The "Missing Person" project was cool, and fun.... to see what people could do with the same (basic) lyrical idea.  That's one reason I rewrote the lyrics... so my version would be different.

    But...yeah, I like this version...  I think...even better.  I noticed subtle differences...and it's good.

Robin Ford is my all-round favorite guitarist…
I had the privilege of meeting him a while back at a show we played in Montgomery, Alabama… We were both playing at the old Train Depot… our band on one end, and his on the other …
I’ve stolen many guitar licks from Robin…  Robin has been my guitar hero for years…

Well, buddy, thanks for the heads up!  You know this is one of my favorite tunes and you didn't let us down.  My only prayer is that I don't hear it while tumbling!  I am blessed with the ability to NOT have the great ear others do.  I thought the drums sounded really good.   I can'tehelp it.  The intro into this song drives me nut!  I see the mountain every time it starts.  I have listened to it going up and sometimes I listened 15 times in a row!   Who can explain what makes a certain song so important to us.  I really didn't know how the rewrite would go.  Dude, it went all the way!  I love it!
