Gone commercial
Well, after 4 months and over 200 hours of recording with no crashes nor major glitches, I've gone commercial with my studio. I've had only one client, but the session went well, and I'm booked in advance. I'm on the latest hot fix (build 246), and I'm very pleased with X1b, so far. I'm just wondering if there are any other X1b users out there that are using it commercially. If so, any advice? Thank you Cakewalk and to any responders in advance.

Yes, using it here and my clients are very happy with the pro sound they have received! I had one call yesterday and thank me because their new cd has helped them get more gigs than ever. Thanks Cakewalk!

Sounds Good! Kansas City! I have been using X1 for about three months in a professional environment. Even thru the bug period. I was lucky to find work arounds so I could stay in X1 64 bit. My clients are also amazed at the quality of sound we can achieve. I have used Cakewalk since Pro Audio 9 as an engineer for a friend of mine in his studio. He upgraded all the way up to Sonar 6 thru the years. When the 64 bit computer scene started settling down, I decided to make the plunge myself with 8.5.3. I didn't think it could get much better than that. I was wrong. They have won me over for life with X1. Good luck in your business venture. Welcome!

i operate a small but busy studio near Philly. myspace.com/blixyz all the top friends are recent clients. check out my (and thei) work. I've been running Sonar for 10 years and my studio has been open for 5. i was able to switch to X1 almost immediately because the initial bugs didn't affect me much. I have had two crashes since I got X1 almost 5 months ago. i cant honestly say i like it much better than 8.5, i was pretty happy before. i love the prochannel, but it kills me that it wont work with my mackie mcu pro, my c4, or my touch screen monitor. my clients are very happy- always amazed at what sonar can do. i consider myself an advanced user, but the more time i spend on the forum, the more i realize that there are areas of sonar that i still have much to learn about. i do 90% audio and only about 10% midi/sample/synth stuff. advice? trust you ears above all, and have fun! oh yeah, and frequest the forum!

Wow, that's great news. Although we don't make money, we consider ourselves professionals (at least trying to be ) in everything we do. Our results are sounding professional as well. Great to hear this from you guys.

Have used Cakewalk for sometime commercially X1 for the last couple of months and X1b 246 (Now). Battled at first but reloaded from scratch and works without issues now. My customers are happy.

I'm so happy to hear that there are others who are having good results with X1b. My clients are quite happy with the results, and I'm looking forward to this venture. As long as CW keeps coming out with quick fixes I'll be staying up to date though I'm rock stable now. Thanks for your replies.

I am glad all is well with your clients Lynn, but I would hope that the main reason that they are happy is because of your ear and your talents and not just because you have SONAR X1b. I use X1b commercially too but I view it is just a tool. My clients are happy when I do a good job of course, like when I find that nasty resonance at 721Hz on the guitar track that hangs around no matter what chord is being played, then surgically notch it out without affecting the important part of the tone etc... I love SONAR, but hopefully our clients judge our kind by our abilities no matter what tools we use. Have a most excellent day!

But, even the best carpenter in the world can do a better job with the right tools rather than a stone adze or flint knives. Of course it takes more than software to make a successful studio, as we still need good hardware to complete our task. At least you have a good tool to remove that resonance at 721 hz, your ears.

However, feel free to take pride in the fact that you're smart enough and talented enough to do what you do and not have to follow the rest of he pack like so many in our industry. Absolutely. I have no problem admitting that I am indeed a SONAR fan boy...ha ha ha. I have ran tracking sessions in Cubase and Pro Tools before, and actually did some editing and mixing in Cubase too, but man there is nothing like SONAR, at least for me. Why is that you ask? Because for me, SONAR does not get in my way, I don't have to think about what I am doing, I can just do it. Of course that is probably because I have been using SONAR since it was called Pro Audio (9) and am so familiar with this that anything else is foreign, but that is the path I took and I am very happy. Now all I have to do is track, edit , and mix without any stumbling around not knowing how to acomplish the tasks that I want.

Yes indeed. And SONAR is such a accurate and precise tool and can actually do those corrective EQ's, compression, side-chaining, external hardware, etc... to a tee... Now if I can only improve a few things with the live room...
