Good Drums on Classic Rock Songs/Groups

I know this might be an extensive list, but lately I've been paying closer attention to drummers from the 70's - 80'sand their sounds as well as how it's mixed in.....

A few that come to mind:

Steve Miller Band (don't know the drummer's name)
Of course John Bonham
Ian Paice
Donnie Iris's (Aaliyah...heard it this morning)
Bill Ward
Clive Bunker
Bill Lordan

What?  No mention of Neil Pert or Phil Collins?  Or Terry Bozio?

(Best I could do off the top of my head.)

You mentioned two of my favorites looking back but...

The work Tommy Taylor and Barry "Frosty" White did on
Eric Johnson's last release, "Up Close" is as tuff as anything
    I've every heard - Richard Mullen ( producer/engineer) and
Andy Johns (producer-mixed it) captured, in my opinion, some
of the best sounding drums ever recorded.

Paice was the first drummer I really noticed, excellent player.

You're welcome...Naturally Eric was my interest and it took me many listens to get into what
was happening...I wasn't sure I even liked it. Then I couldn't stop listening to it. Now it's in
my Bose bedside player and I listen every night.
I would safely bet that for most guitarist they will hear something they didn't hear before- for
    about 10 plays.
It was during that time of listening that even with all the incredible guitar and bass work going on
    that the drums hit me.
If one can listen long enough and give it a chance...unreal. Just one of the best I've ever heard barr none.

True, they're ALL excellent players!! Wasn't Clive Bunker also with Jethro?
In most of the mentioned drummers, what I've noticed is that their drums stand out apart from the whole mix as opposed to other rock bands.....now John Bonham probably wins 1st prize in the loudness wars, but the drum sounds are just fantastic!!

Another favourite of mine was Fairport drummer Dave Mattacks who appeared on many a UK hit single during that era working for people like Joan Armatrading and Kate Bush to mention just two.

In fact pretty much every drummer Joan Armatrading used was pretty special, Kenney Jones and Henry Spinetti being another two notables.

Like most of those you've mentioned Mesh these are British players of course there were a plethora of fantastic American players around at the time too.

This must be due to the "British Invasion" era? I just remembered Keith Moon....another drummer that stood out (live and in the studio).
Dave Mathews also comes to mind.....

I'm a big fan of Mick Fleetwood's drumming. I'm sure there are many drummers from that era that were technically more talented than he was, but his drum parts always just fit perfectly and his sound is awesome.

Wow, TWO mentions of Keith Moon?  Really?  Great energy (when he wasn't passed out), but usually all over the place on his timing (and nothing complicated like Bozio loved to do either).  If it wasn't for Entwhistle the Who would have been the WTH???
