Good Guitar Strumming VSTi
Hi, Can you suggest a good Guitar Strumming VSTi? The old Steinberg's Virtual Guitarist was great but limited. I am looking for both acoustic and electric guitar. Thanks joni

Haven't looked for an electric strumming VST, but the best acoustic one I've used is Pettinhouse AcousticGuitar. Very flexible strum pattern designer and it sounds great. There are some vids on Youtube showing off the product. Regards, Dan

I've enjoyed using the Strum Maker IV (Acoustic) from InDigiNous.......found it to be super easy to use, simple to get a good rythm pattern, sounds very good, and is fairly cheap. (requires the full version of Kontakt 4 or higher). http://www.indiginus.com/StrumMaker4.html

I agree with Carl on Ampsound(I only tried the demo) and ilyaefimov My favorite currently is I don't own Pettinhouse or Orangetree but they seem worth checking out. For me, Indiginus is a great way to make a fast sketch, but I don't really like the strum for final track.

ArcRex, to be able to post links, I believe you need to have a minimum of 25 posts. (you can still spell out the link though)

Music Lab's real guitar series is good if you want a stand alone VST; There is an acoustic, a Strat and a Les Paul. If you have Kontakt be sure to check out Orange Tree's offerings.

I like the sound (acoustic steel and nylon, no electric) but am confused as to how to use it correctly. Went on to Youtube and only found one clip of someone from AAS demonstrating it and it seemed pretty cool, but I need some kind of tutorial or guide to figure out how to get the same results he was getting. There may be access to a "help" site from within the plugin, but my DAW is not connected to the Internet. I'm hoping another clip will show up on Youtube that actually walks you through the steps. Best, Rob

I have a ton of different products. Nothing even comes close to RealGuitar (MusicLab). Here's why: • It handles both solo and strumming parts. • You can put in simple three or four note chords and trust RealGuitar to turn that into realistic guitar chords—or you can define your own chords. A lot of programs are limited in the chord options. RG will do anything you could ever need. • The up/down strokes sound more real than anyone else's, in my opinion, and the mutes and other articulations sound great. • It comes with several steel string, a 12-string, and two nylon guitars. The stereo sample steel is particularly good. • Since you can tell RG to play the chord in different positions, it is ideal for creating two guitar parts (left and right) playing different inversions (or neck positions). If you buy this product, PM me and I can pass on some tips. The manual is not super clear on a couple of very important points, but once you've got it, it is a snap. I actually played acoustic guitar on 1,000s of records but now I use RG on everything. AAS is good for the price but less realistic. Vir2 Acoustic Legends HD is good for solos (though there is no stereo choice) and the strumming is limited. I do use it sometimes along with RG for variety. Vir2 has a new product out called Acou6tics that is supposed to strum well, but they claim it is based on the technology used in Electri6ity, which I find frustrating. For electrics, MusicLab also makes RealStrat and RealLPC. I use them all the time. Excellent for solos or strumming.

Definitely agree with Konrad review of the RealGuitar series by MusicLab. Great sounds, highly configurable, comes with stand alone and VSTi versions, integrates well into tracks. Check out the YouTube vids for demos of what it can really do in the hands of an expert...impressive.

Hey. I still stand by my recommendation of RealGuitar. I did, however, take a look at the product below, and from the videos, it seems pretty cool. I may buy it so I have more acoustic guitar options. (I am a heavy user of acoustic rhythm guitar, so having more than one choice is great.) http://www.acousticsamples.net/gd6 I also have the strum Acoustic made by WavesFactory and it is really good, but it is intentionally inexpensive and limited. It sounds great but basically just gives you major and minor chords with upstrokes and downstrokes. I will definitely use it, but would not rely on it for my primary or only choice. For the money (9.95€), however, it is awesome if your needs are simple.

Anderton, I went back to compare AAS strummer with those that I have. There are 2 things that I don't like: 1. In Auto mode as soon as a 3rd key is pressed you get a strum which is great if you press the keys all at once, but if your doing an arpeggio you have to make sure only 2 keys remain done at a time or you get an unrealistic strum. 2. Compared to most of the competitors the sound is very flat, dull.
The thing I like is in manual mode, I like the strum\single string keystrokes that you can do while holding the chord down.
BTW, I enjoyed your x1 workshop videos.

AAS is a little quirky and their tutorials can take a few reads to get the usage down pat, but I quite like it's sound even though it's not completely realistic. Probably not what the OP was asking for but I've used it in several recordings with some success.

It is funny how much more sophisticated and picky we get each year. A few years ago, I would have killed for something like AAS. I love RealGuitar, but if all I had were AAS, I would make still make records.

Anderton What do you think of the AAS strummer included with X3E Producer? I haven't used it much because I play guitar.
I just think it sound horrible. Despite the fact that they apparently use modeling in an attempt to create a realistic sound, it sounds as bad or worse than the guitar sounds on an old SoundCanvas. I used to use Virtual Guitarist and even with its limitations, sounded a million bucks better than AAS Strummer.
