Good deal On Craigslist..........

Browsing thru Craigslist sturday and and ran across this little guy..............

Yamaha MU80 Tone Module

I snagged it for $50.00 with power supply.
When I got it home I downloaded a manual and MIDI Data sheet in just minutes...

I know it seems old school, but the little sucker is pretyy cool...........from a guitarist point of view.
I grabbed it because of the price and I'm comfortable in the XG format.

The E-bay prices range from 120.00+shipping to $199.00+shipping...........and I got to check this one out in person before I bought it.

The Pads,Piano's and XG drums are decent for the price..........

A couple nice things.....

Built In REV 100  Reverb and FX processor.......delay's,EQ,Chorus,distortion,guitar amp sim etc
Various 2,3 and 4 Band Eq"s
Studio Grade Noise Floor.......Basically Dead quiet compared to my Keyboards and drum machines
700+ XG and GM sounds
Endless drum kit combinations with very detailed editing and sub mixing
2 true seperate MIDI inputs each suporting 16 channels of MIDI.............so you could run 2 controllers to it completely independant of each other

Anyway I'm pretty happy with it.

Just thought I'd pass that on in case you see one on the cheap some where.

Just think we used to drool over these little magic boxes, and save up $$$$$$ to own one. Now the same sounds are more or less free via MS wavetable.
The thing that made each box sound better than MS wavetable was the built in DSP.
I too have a Korg 05rw that was my back up band for a long time. I paid $1,500 back in the 80's. We still use it in my keyboard players system for the organ and strings.
The worst box I ever owned was the Roland MT 32. We called it the Empty 32. It had no memory so you had to send a exclusive to it before using it. A local boy here, Jeff Koftinoff designed the editing software for it ( Atari) and later scored a job with Roland as a programer. I think he still works with them.

Used to have an MU-10 years ago. Sounded great. Swapped it for an MU-100R. Sold that ages ago but wish I hadn't.
