Good news about crashes

Well, having pissed and moaned about the lack of ability to evaluate X1 prior to purchase, I took the plunge and went for it. Problem was, I was crashing with great regularity. I was SO unhappy, and regretted my decision for a week or so. Then (don't point and laugh at me for not creating anything new) I noticed that the great majority of crashes happened whilst working with files I had created in PE7, which was the latest version I had used.

Once I started projects from scratch, I had far fewer crashes, and actually am having a great time of it with X1. In the case of the new stuff I'm working on, I don't really see any major problems. Part of my issue with the old projects, I'm sure, was having tracks that had plug-ins active in them. I also went back and cleaned some of the tracks of plugs, switched my Session Drummer tracks to straight MIDI - basically stripped the tracks of anything Sonar-specific. Then I re-applied plug-ins and re-assigned the MIDI percussion tracks to Session Drummer 3 (which I like pretty well). Results: Much more stable operation, and still better in fresh projects.

All this to say, I'd like to hear all y'alls' observations on this, particularly those of you suffering frequent crashes. Were/are you using pre-X1 tracks?

I understand the lesson here, believe me - don't live in the past.

I think that experience is fairly universal with any version upgrade of Sonar. I've regularly experienced that sort of thing with most major version changes in recent memory. Open a track that was made in an older version of Sonar, stick it in the latest and greatest and wait for the weird things to start happening. Create a brand new track and try to re-produce the error - nothing...

Can be a complete P.I.T.A. to start building a mix from the ground up in the new version, but definitely worth the time.

Good luck with everything in your new X1 endeavours!

    Ciao,

    Q.

Thanks, man. I don't remember these issues when upgrading last time, but it was so long ago, I suppose I've forgotten.

Say, looking at your profile picture, I can't help but think that maybe that guitar is a Gurian, based on the rossette and the rounded pickguard. Just a guess. I have one, and it's da bomb, even though it's starting to kind of come apart at the seams. That animal hide glue...
