Good sources for Bachelor thesis about DAWs?

Hi,
I have a little question. Is there any suitable literature regarding Sonar or another frequently used DAW you would recommend me? I'm going to elaborate Bachelor thesis about DAW softwares next year. Aim of the thesis will be to analyze the most used DAWs and identify strengths and weaknesses. Result of thesis will be the comparing the analyzed software.
I found some books at online stores, but first I want to find out, if you would recommend me some specific publication.
Thank you, Michal.

The most popular book with regards to sonar would probably be Scotts  Sonar Power
He has an X1 Power too http://www.amazon.co.uk/Scott-R.-Garrigus/e/B001JP7LGQ/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1

Not sure what others there. If it doesn't have to be littérateur then you could perhaps check sonar university.

I teach at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh PA.

My students are senior undergraduate and graduate students.  I have been a faculty advisor for similar projects.  Since you are looking for 'literature' I suspect that technical user guides will be useful, but possibly not able to provide the full context you seek.

I suggest you subscribe to Sound On Sound magazine and utilize their vast historical archives containing articles.  There are both product specific and categorical articles that contain excellent information on DAW products.

You might also consider PM'ing or Emailing some key players in the industry to see if they might provide you an email interview.  Craig Anderton comes to mind as someone who just might be willing to respond to an email about the history and relative placement of some products in the industry.

I first found out about midi, etc.,  from reading PC Magazine back in the 80s.  There are some now defunct platforms such as "Bars N Pipes" (?) that I recall.  A lot of this started on the Commodore computer and then the Amiga line of computers.  The Wikipedia article on Digital Audio Workstation would lead you to a lot of resources on the Internet (perhaps you've already gone there to check it out), and doing a search on "digital audio workstation" over at Amazon comes up with a lot of books to check out.

Sound On Sound allows you to read their older articals free, and request subscription for more recent stuff, 6 month or a year (used to be 6 months). Could be worth trawling through and seeing how DAWs have developed over time, you'll have a good idea of whetehr you want to pay for a subscription by the end of that
