Goodbye From Bub.

Bub asked me to post this for him:

Hi everyone,

Do to recent actions by Cakewalk and Roland, I will not be returning to the forum.

I was recently banned. I have no problem with that at all. I completely understand that I violated the TOS and accept the ban and take full responsibility for my actions.

What I have a problem with are two things:

1. I was never notified that I was banned, or why I was banned, or how long the ban was for. When I tried to pull up the forum site, I received a web page error. I didn't even know at that point that I was banned. After a couple of emails to some fellow forum members, I was informed that the site was working and that I had actually been banned.

I had to send 3 emails to Cakewalk to find out why I was banned and for how long, two of which were to the forum webmaster and I still haven't received a response. I was able to get in contact with Ryan and he sent me a very kind email and informed me the ban was for 2 weeks and explained why I was banned.

2. They have completely blocked me from viewing the forum. I can understand Cakewalk doing this to an IP address associated with a banned forum member. I get it, I have no problem with it, and I think it's a good idea to do that to keep someone who may be disgruntled from creating another account and coming back in and causing trouble. I get it.

The problem is, they have gone so far as to block my cell phone on open wireless networks as well. To me this is completely innapropriate and unacceptable.

I never tried to log in to the forum from my cell phone, I never tried to create another user account from my phone, I was just reading the forum. At first I was able to view a few posts, then I was blocked.

I was viewing posts that I was involved in with helping a fellow forum member with some issues he was having with Sonar. I wanted to check on the status of that. Even though I was banned, I still care about helping people out and was genuinely interested in how the member was doing. I saw before they blocked my phone that I solved some of his major problems and I'm happy for him.

I was also reading some threads in the Coffee House and Songs forum. Thanks everyone for your support, and to those who are glad I was banned, I completely understand. I can be abbrasive and I completely get why some people don't like that. Fair enough.

Sorry, but when you start going after people's cell phones on open networks, I have a very major problem with.

I will not be returning to this forum, and I am no longer a Cakewalk or Roland customer.

Thanks everyone, I wish you all well.

My email is bubdotd@hotmail.com if anyone wants to get in touch with me.

Bub

Steve - is he sure they blocked him from open access or was it just bad timing when the forum was down yesterday?

I cannot imagine they have the technology, resources and even the desire to block his cell phone from an open access portal.

I cant see how they could block a cell phone on a wireless (wap) network that hands out different IPs , unless it is MAC based, which they could do ..

I didnt read what he said, I know Bub has had opposing views, but our paths never crossed.

Bub, I wish you well , Good Luck, Buddy.

How would they know it was Bub's cellphone if he didn't/couldn't log in? That doesn't make sense.

Re:Goodbye From Bub. 2013/03/08 14:39:16 (permalink)
I think he probably tried to access the site from his cellphone when it was down. Just bad timing. I don't think they'd block more than one IP associated with an account. The problem with doing that is that they don't know how many people use that IP to log into the forum. For instance, what if they ended up blocking Bryant Park's free wifi signal in New York. There's a good chance one or two other people might use that signal to log into the forum (maybe on their lunch break) and they would be blocked as well.

I wish Bub well and hope he reconsiders, he's one of the personalities here and no matter what you think of him he's integral to the community. What did he do to break the TOS anyway?

I think he'll be back.....once the dust settles a bit. I agree with what Sharke says.....I can see Cake blocking the IP address, but not the cell phone.......and this is the whole crux of him leaving.

Hope to see you soon Bub.

It probably starts by someone hitting the Report Abuse button on a post (and completing the pop-up form).

Holy cripes. And I'm the drama queen? Take your licks and come back when the ban is over. You've obviously got a lot of friends here. Hopefully you'll learn not to turn every slight difference of opinion into WWIII. Oh and here's a pro tip... don't report yourself when you DO go on a full frontal assault against the TOS. lol

To the rest of ya'll... thanks for all the help over the past year. I'm serious, it is very much appreciated. I've got a handle on things now. I'll probably be back at some point but I've got enough material to learn for now. Cheers.

Oh and if his phone is hooked up to his ISP somehow or he's logged on from his phone in the past that's probably why it's blocked. Most sites will just prevent new accounts being created from an banned ISP but I guess this place is different. I don't agree with that for what it's worth.

Well, he told me he cannot log into the forum because his (android) phone will not accept the 4 digit "human" code to log in. I can confirm this because my android phone will also NOT allow me to log into the forum for the exact same reason. I've ascertained that it's the browsers fault as I can log in from my android tablet with a downloaded version of Chrome (note: I cannot install Chrome on my phone being told my OS version is not supported).
