Goodbye, Sonar
I began working in the digital domain with the original Cakewalk MIDI sequencer. After some 27 years I'm cutting Cakewalk loose. After waiting patiently and continuously requesting that the company at least correct the bugs that have been present for many iterations of the software, I hit the wall. I've just spent 10 hours mixing a 5 track solo piano recording that should have taken 2 hours. I won't bore you with the illogical behavior of the program, but after many many workarounds, including those always recommended by support when they realize it's a bug or maybe several bugs, I finally got a mix. I have come to the conclusion that Sonar is not a professional audio workstation. I'll leave it to those in the MIDI realm, where it seems to shine. I'm moving up to MOTU Digital Performer.
Sonar Platinum, Windows 7, Intel Core i7 4.0 Ghz, 16G RAM, RME Hammerfall DSP , MOTU MTPAV, Frontier Tranzport, Mackie Control, midiman DigiPatch,UAD-2 Duo,Sony Soundforge, Receptor. Yamaha S6. Kurzweil PC3K8. Favorite plugins: Atmosphere, Stylus, Real Guitar, Malmsjo Grand Piano, PSP Warmer, UA, EastWest Composer Cloud.

for what it's worth I don't feel DP is a mature enough product yet on pc.. and if it works for you great.. I would try a few things first, see how you get on... a lot of things have trials/demos

Heads up, Cakewalk people, if you hear ecstatic shouts of joy from across the river, it's MOTU having finally gained a Windows DP customer.

I always wonder if people who make the dramatic "I've been a cakewalk user since 230 BC...and Plato really knew midi...Cakewalk walked out on our three children..I'm leaving to the arms of another DAW" posts expect a Cakewalk rep to chain himself to their ankles.

I was intrigued by DP when they announced the Windows version, as MOTU is clearly trying hard to be a serious player in the DAW market. But I imagine walking into their offices and seeing cubicle after cubicle with Macs. The only guy with a Windows PC is that one weirdo in the back who nobody ever invites to lunch, the one who's never tried to kick a hackysack in his life, hates granola and wears shoes to work. Oh, and you can be pretty sure he's not the guy who'll answer the phone when you call in with a Windows-specific question.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

Funniest of all is he just said goodbye to the wrong Forum! And while I don't really care what software someone uses, truth is, if you can't get Sonar to work, you'll probably have worse luck elsewhere, Sonar's a piece of Cake! Bit's text reads like something from Douglas Couplands Mirco Serfs, cool..

I've used a few of the top DAW software's (was a Protool HD user) so far for about eight years I've used Cakewalk Sonar Producer versions, and it's been the best and most productive work flow. Everyone has there like's (and hates) about software, but for me I've found what's most important is getting a great performance recorded, the tonality of the instruments, pre/post mixing & mastering and "Yes" I've had "Crashes" with Sonar, part of it was years ago my own learning curve (turning a midi controller or audio interface off in the middle w/Sonar enable etc.) Nothing is perfect even my PT/HD had crashes? (lots of $ in servers/DSP cards) it was a very good system and I thought if it's a "Professional Standard" it would never Lockup, & Freeze? Sonar has been a really great performer, for me! It's what I depend on.

Bit MOTU were always a more "mac-centric" company, that goes back to hhm 13+ years ago when I was in the trade.. their UK demo person Martin , knew his stuff.. BUT it was all mac... maybe because of the set hardware.. the tell tell signs is the installs on the PC for some of their hardware , convoluted or used to be.. install.. put ya left leg out.. plug the usb in... then do a swirl.. then reboot.. etc etc

Goodbye Sonar, Hello long and frustrating learning curve. I'd think long and hard before chucking Sonar for something else. you're going to pay a bunch of money for something that is very similar, and will have its own set of bugs.

Some of you are missing important point: it is not about the OP's choice: the Sonar is really not professional program and it does have lots of bugs and issues. Strange that it took 27 years to figure out. I don't see why you would not be supportive: the point is- people leaving and Cakewalk needs to get their stuff together. It still is not. I would say- if you do not experiene problems with Sonar- you not using it heavily enough.

And I would say there are MANY people on this forum who use Sonar day in, day out in a professional capacity as their sole means of generating income. Sonar isn't perfect (no software is) but it presents very few problems that cannot be worked around with a little bit of thought and ingenuity. Most "problems" are in fact user error, system failings or configuration problems.
