Goodbye for now!
Happy New Year! Two of my favorite daily activities have now become mutually exclusive! 1. Using SONAR (X1) 2. Browsing and posting on this forum I can't do both, since that leaves me to question my sanity. Reading all the threads here I obviously shouldn't be able to use X1 to any real effect, and if I think I can, I'm not a 'power user' or 'pro' or whatever. But the good news is that reading posts here makes me much sadder than using X1, so that makes my choice pretty easy! So have a real nice 2011 everyone, and see y'all around X2 release time!!! Sven

Sven Sven, Sometimes I feel as you do. Being somewhat of an outspoken guy, I'm never sure who's talking about who around here... But I would prefer you stick around, as much I sometimes wanna go away too. Your input is valuable. If you choose otherwise, I understand and would hope others do.

Back to work on Monday. Probably won't post much after that so everyone have a great 2011. I'll check in from time to time but my job keeps me going. Looks like X1 is off to a start (notice the lack of adjective there). I'm sure the next few updates should cure a lot of ills. Parting words of wisdom, if you don't like the looks or accessibility of X1, create a screenset with the view you can work with.

Please reconsider and stick around Sven, I like your posts. If you could find a way of reconciling your X1 and forum activities I am sure others would appreciate it too. Regards Garry Kiosk

Sven, If you're still around try this simple test. Go to the old 8.5 forums and have look around. No flames no whining just good advice for problems people are having. Pretty refreshing and it won't be long before this forum returns to its former helpful self.

Sven, I understand what you are saying fully. Your suggestion is probably a good one for me too. I think I am spending too much time on here lately. I think I will follow your example and spend much LESS TIME on here. Still check in 1-2 times per week to keep up to date, but stop wasting time chiming in on every topic every day. Besides, I have decided to stick with SONAR 8.0 for now and wait down the road for X2, X3 or whichever future version looks to be stable and tweaked better.

Sven, I don't know you very well, but this has worked for me so far. I have been able to make do by mostly avoiding the "Yay!" and "Boo!" threads, and just by sticking to the problem/solution threads. If I have something to share, be it a good thing, a bad thing, or just an ugly thing, I'll post a thread here asking for advice or offering info. I try to keep my scope limited so I won't drive anybody batty. Like "how can I make better use of blah blah?" or "I can't get function Q to work" (haha, that last one was an inside joke). Question: "How do you eat an elephant?" Answer: "One bite at a time!" On this forum, we are not going to solve X1's problems, regardless of whether they are real or perceived. Or whether they are perceived to be perceived. Uh oh, I am looking at infinity again! But the work we do here today, this week, and going forward will eventually have a bearing (for better or for worse) on the future of X1. So it's still a good arena in which to work. Once my most immediate questions are posted, then I'll begin looking for similar type threads from other users, based solely on the subject line. If a subject line sounds like it might be a love/hate thread (as I call them), I just don't look. I am in the learning and problem-solving mode right now, so love/hate threads are really out of scope for the work I need to do right now. Plus, I think if somebody loves X1, they're happy and nothing will change their mind. If somebody hates X1, nothing ANYBODY else says will change that person's heart or mind either. So why waste time and energy arguing? We are so polarized right now, arguing for post after post after post is just the height of self-importance. Which is also out of scope for the work I need to do. I need to keep feeding my muse, to keep my karma out of the mud. Even this very post I make will have limited usefulness, if any at all. Some folks won't read it. Others will read it and go right back into the previous (or next) argument. Some might call me a name or issue an unflattering response. Whatever floats their boats! But self-punishment is not in my game plan, so I probably will not return to this thread. There's too much I want to try to get done today. I might not even watch any football, oh horrors! But I offer these thoughts only because it is working for me. The forum is not getting me down like it was last week and I'm smiling today, so that must be something!

(Don't worry, after this I'll really be gone) Thanks for the encouraging replies and I appreciate the absence of "don't let the door hit your ass"-types of remarks! And to all the "whiners": I definitely appreciate your efforts towards making the Bakers fix bugs and letting them know that people are unhappy, but it's way too much for me to take in and I cannot contribute anything that hasn't been said before, so I'm taking a break. Besides, it's also kind of a "it's not you it's me" thing. Call me naïve, but I'm hoping to relive a simpler period of my life: The four years of using SONAR 2 before I discovered this forum! Don't get me wrong, I have learnt a tremendous lot from you all but I feel that I've started worrying too much about the software and equipment. Now, I'm not going back to SONAR 2, an SM58 and a SoundBlaster card, but I remember actually using the program for four years without worrying about how it could be improved or if there was some better DAW out there for me. And even though I spent time in studios that had Pro Tools and my friends had Cubase, I didn't feel that there was anything they could do with their software that I couldn't. Somewhat incorrectly, I admit, but still... So I composed, arranged and produced music, and didn't care about the software! Until I saw a SONAR 6PE ad boasting its "pristine 64-bit mixing engine", and naturally I assumed that it would make my music sound more 'pro'. So I inquired here on the forum and was caught in the annual upgrade cycle. I hope that by taking a break from this and other forums, I'll be able to get back to improving my own skills and letting the software and other equipment be what they are! That's it from me, and I promise I won't log in again until I get an email from Cakewalk containing an "exclusive SONAR X2 preview video!!!" Have a good year everybody and I hope the tone on the forum has mellowed out some by the time I return! Sven

I respect your decision personally Sven, and there is much truth in what you say about getting back to "the simpler period" of just the joy of creating and recording music. Have a good time and see you on your return whenever that may be Regards Garry Kiosk

Because I'm particularly irked at what I see today, I'm providing a different spin on this. So? I meant, what good is it going to do? Through all the BS there is A LOT of useful information and a lot of good people providing help and encouragement. Leaving isn't going to do you any good (well, I guess I'm talking to nobody here) It's harsh I know, but seriously.....you're just letting "them" win.

I can see where Sven is coming from. I let the posts here get to me too and I almost backed out of X1. I'm glad I didn't now though. chris is right, you can't let the negativity get to you. Heck, for all we know the people who get out of line here are plants from other companies and your giving them just what they want. Stranger things have happened!
