Enjoyed this song very much! Great song and performances. Superb :)

Hearing slight noise in the intro. Have you tired the first part of the intro without drums then gradually build it up? I think it may work really well. The hi-hats could come down a little, and in some parts replaced with a ride. Maybe a little more sense of separation needed in the mix, and it does sound like it's pushed a little too hard. But wow!! This is a great track.

It is pushed hard, and the transfer to mp3 isn't particularly flattering - listening to it this morning, I think I know what I need to do to get it where I want.

    Thanks for your input mate.

Love your studio!! This song has a great vibe to it and is really a refreshing tune. Vocals fit the groove perfectly and are done very well. It does seem that with a little tweaking in the mix and some separation, it could sound even better. Very good song!

I enjoyed this, great melody and nice vocals and backing vocals.

You may consider to eq the bass a bit. Less treble i think.

    Very nice arrangement :)

Is it OK if lasses comment too?

I like this! Great tune. Love those harmonies too! Great instrumentation. The intro sorta hit me between the eyes on the first listen, but going back, it seems just fine. Maybe I'm just not awake yet. Good job!

Wow GREAT song and love the vocals especially! Really catchy tune with a lot of layers - quite a few things going on that all work together well without being too busy. A couple of nit-picks:

    * The snare I think needs some more punch to it and needs to be brought up a bit in the mix to where it's just a little bit underneath the vocals.
    * I wasn't crazy abou the the orchestral synth pad you had on the second verse (?)

And yeah it sounds like your MP3 encoding didn't do the recording any favors - made some of the high end sound a little lo-fi, but I bet the .wav sounds great.

Really nice job - loved it!!!

Really catchy pop tune. A lot going on in this song but you did a great job at producing a clean full sounding mix.. The vox and harmonies are excellent. On my end the snare does need a bit more punch it gets lost at times. All in all a very well written and performed piece. Looking forward to hearing more of your music.

    Colin,

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Superb in every department. I'm so fortunate to have heard it. My only crit would be the snare drums is a bit un-bright.

Lyn is astounding on vox and the whole idea of the song is stellar.

VEry impressive music. I'm a fan.

Cheers rick - Lyn is augmented by one of our friends on this song - most evident in the third verse.

Mike/Space - yeah, that was sort of the intention - to give it a live vibe.

BFD2 - just the stock kits, no expansion pieces.

The trick was to get a balance between the Overheads, the room mics & the direct mics.

I eliminated all of the natural bleed which certainly helped to clean things up, but like several people have already mentioned, the snare gets a bit lost sometimes.

The snare is currently going through an EQ, a compressor, it's own gated verb, and the bus submix is also compressed.

And I'm combining the efforts of 2 mics, 1 above, 1 below the snare.

    It should be HUGE

The learning curve gets ever steeper............

You eliminated 'bleed' with compression and some high end EQ cuts?

Sounds real good overall...hi hat and cymbals a tad loud,
but I sometimes run into this as well...it sounds fine then mp3 conversion to Sounclick brings them out more.

BFD2 provides the option to eliminate the Kick & Snare bleed via a couple of switches.

Totally un-natural - you couldn't hear this in the real world, but I guess that's true about a lot of things we do!!!!

This did have a very english vibe to it. There were a couple of times when that sort of reedy sounding organ came in that made me think of earl Genesis. That would normally sound at odds with this type of track, but it all seemed to fit somehow with the vibe of the track. You have a great pop sensibility and you know how to arrange a song. The vocals are suited well to this track and are well delivered. Overall i thought it was excellent.

    Amazing song.

Don't know what the others have said, but for me this seems to be lacking a bottom end. Kinda like what I would expect from AM radio. There is little there at all.

Were you intentionally going lofi? If so, it works well (lofi seems to be popular these days).

    Outstanding song.

Shad, it's quite funny really - when I listened to it on the downstairs stereo system, there was SO much bass there that I decided to do a radical cut of both the the deep bass & the low mids.

    Back to the mixing/drawing board.........

Glad you enjoyed the song though - it was fun to do!!!
