Are you able to share any thoughts you have so far? Tonal quality overall? Balance between registers? Smoothness between velocity layers? Variable sustain, Sostenuto, & soft pedals? Anything in general that sticks out?

After a few days on getting used to it I have to say I'm loving it. The quality is excellent. The velocity range is perfect with soft velocities represented very well. There's a knob that evens out the volume difference between the low and high velocities which I'm liking very much. I do love my pianos played piano. Five mics in all, 4 rr with neighborhood rr borrowing possibilities. Key and Pedal noise options. There are a couple of neat tricks for enhancing the sound and mic mixing. It has nice sounding Metropolis Plate reverbs though I'll probably not use them since I love putting Eventide Blackhole reverb on pianos (there's nothing better for a piano than Blackhole). The library is pretty big, around 50 gb. Putting together a track (a remake of and old tune with newer sounds) which I'm putting Mercury on. Will post it once I have it finished.

It would be you watching me program a piano since my playing shouldn't be heard without editing... :D

Here we go. I know these should be posted under songs, but this track has been there already and I'll post it here for people to hear the Mercury in context. https://soundcloud.com/tapsa-kuusniemi/skybound-redux On the Mercury I have Ultraclose (with narrowed width), Close and Mono Mics active. The reverb is from Eventide Blackhole, which I always use on pianos and use it as a reference when testing out new pianos.

dcumpian Curious if you've ever used http://www.spitfireaudio.com/shop/a-z/hans-zimmer-piano/ If so, would you say this compares favorably? Dan
I have not used the Spitfire HZP so can't say a word edgewise. What I can say is that to me the tone and character of the Mercury are the thing. My previous favorite piano was Spitfire's Soft Piano (plus a custom sampled grand piano).

Holy. O M G I really hope Wavesfactory does this library justice and doesn't screw the pooch. The demo you posted makes the piano sound a little muddy but I blame that on Soundclouds absolutely abysmal compression. (edit: just listened to the ones on wavesfactory soundcloud and it has that same muddy sound. I think I'm right in that it's the compression soundcloud uses) Ever since I got the original survey about this, I've been salivating. This may end up being my replacement piano if they do it right.

What I've played around with Mercury I haven't noticed muddyness. The sound is warm and fairly round.

I recently read a gushing review of it, so I was curious. I wasn't hearing anything all that special from the demos I heard. The current piano to beat is Pearl, IMO. https://impactsoundworks.com/product/pearl-concert-grand/ Regards, Dan

Kuusniemi ...It has nice sounding Metropolis Plate reverbs though I'll probably not use them since I love putting Eventide Blackhole reverb on pianos (there's nothing better for a piano than Blackhole).
A bit OT but I have to ask - any particular BH presets you've found particularly useful with piano? I really like BH and have used it on a few projects, but so far it's been more of an "effect" than as a traditional reverb space.

I usually mod the "Blackhole" preset to suit my needs. I like my piano to sound soft with a long tail. I'm not really going for traditional reverbs with piano and that's pretty much the reason I like Blackhole.
