Got the Blues....
Man... is it just post-holiday doldrums or WHAT? I can't seem to find inspiration to sit down behind my keyboard, pick up a guitar, or turn on X2 for the life of me. I need a spark! Or a new woman. Any ideas??? Anybody else go through these spells?? *sigh*

I watched the Marshall Tucker Band Volunteer Jam on Netflix yesterday. That got me going. :-) Those guys were super tight with the double guitar parts. It was inspiring. best regards, mike

Anybody else go through these spells?? Yep. We all do, or at least that's my perception. And one thing's for sure - you can't force it! If you're seriously not inclined to do anything musical, go and do something else for a while, don't even think about music. Trying to force an idea, or a riff, or a melody, or whatever can be destructive & counter-productive. I might even write a song about it!

Its probably a combination of things. The weather in the fall and winter doesn't help much. Not much to suggest other than waiting it out and maybe doing something else for awhile. Trying too hard can make things worse. Last night I was sitting at the DAW all ready to go and I got distracted working on another computer on something else, long story short I never made it to the DAW. I think part of me needed a rest from it. That goofy drum track will have to wait till later.

tbosco Man... is it just post-holiday doldrums or WHAT? I can't seem to find inspiration to sit down behind my keyboard, pick up a guitar, or turn on X2 for the life of me. I need a spark! Or a new woman. Any ideas??? Anybody else go through these spells?? *sigh* Oh man. Yeah. I go through these spells. Going through it right now myself. I pick up my guitar, strum a couple chords, and sit it back down. I just moved and I don't have my studio set back up, and I really have no desire to do it now. I did there for a little while, but not anymore. I'm even thinking of just selling it all off while it's still boxed up. When I was packing, I cleaned the dust and finger prints off everything and it all looks like new. I'm actively trying to sell my amp and lefty LP Custom. Women don't help. They only make it worse because they are 10 times more emotional than we are, and as musicians/artists, we're already 1/2 ~ 3/4 chick when it comes to emotions. The only thing that ever really helped me with depression is just going for a long walk ... alone. Go for a long walk in the woods away from everyone, or on some back roads like I did on the dirt roads in Iowa. It does a lot for you, it releases endorphins, gets your heart rate up, strengthens your immune system, and gives you a feeling of accomplishment. I'm not talking a stroll around the park ... I'm talking more like a hike. I used to walk 3.5 miles in 45 minutes every night, and 8 miles on Saturdays. It's even better in nasty horrible weather. You really clear your mind because you're forced to concentrate on what you are doing. I went for a 7 mile walk one time in a blizzard. I got 20 feet up my driveway and the house disappeared in the snow. Heh. Another time I went in an ice storm. Came home with 2 inches of ice on me. Never felt better! Nothing like taking a nice hot shower after coming in from a hike in a blizzard and having a nice hot cup of coffee. Good luck tbosco.

Got about 4 great tunes to work on, and haven't come up with a decent guitar part in weeks. Until last night..now it's rolling again. Dunno why it happens, but it do.

I'm still looking for that elusive woman (mythical some might say) who doesn't call you and say "can I come over?" when you're just sitting down at your DAW for a wonderful night of MIDI, and then get paranoid when you say you're busy. I thought I'd found her 2 years ago but she dumped me for wishing her a happy Valentine's Day (by text).

A friend of my room mate was over the other night. He's a guitar player and we got talking about recording, so I showed him my gear and demoed SHS 6 for him. After he left, I noticed how many songs I had in the Projects folder. I now have more unfinished and barely-started songs than I do completed songs.
