Grammarly
Tonight out of boredom I decided to check out this browser extension which is being promoted aggressively of late. It claims to correct your grammar as you type - a sort of spell check with wings. I don't think I have bad grammar, although I do tend to make mistakes when I'm in a hurry. Anyway after a few hours of using it I decided that it was actually a crock - the free version isn't that helpful, it's giving you this constant visual feedback as you type which is incredibly annoying (probably to everyone over the age of 35 at least), and worst of all I found that it would randomly move your cursor in certain circumstances, like when I was moving around the text with the cursor to make edits. It couldn't be more intrusive. Plus, as far as I know it's sending what you type to their servers, which feels like a huge privacy issue to me. What made me laugh was when I headed over to the Chrome store to read the reviews. I wanted to see if anyone else was as irritated by it as me. To my surprise it got rave reviews - but hilariously enough, a huge number of these rave reviews were written with atrocious spelling, grammar and punctuation. You cannot make this stuff up

Hi, Bad English? Is that a new band of some sort? My sentence structure, if you have not noticed, tends to follow the Latin structures quite a bit, and is one of the reasons why some folks don't like reading it ... it requires some more attention to find out what is being said. It's the usual problem with various languages. As far as writing, the grammar thing on W10 on my computer, doesn't seem to mind me much, although it does not like ... a whole lot, however, I have not found a good way to use thinking pauses in writing, as they are done in theater and film scripts, for example.
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

Hi, My first course at UCSB was a Theater Literature for the 1800's or something like that and I had to write a paper on Strindberg. I got a B+ from the class ... but the professor said ... you have great ideas, if you only knew how to write them! That ought to tell you the problems I had with English! And that was 12 years after coming to America, only knowing a couple of words ... "hello" and "yankee"!

This is where the moderation in here is all wrong. In ye good olde days, I could have simply typed ***** and left it at that. Now that such simple one-word expressionism is verboten I have to use complex arguments and well-reasoned statements to get my point across. Maybe if I don't use too many ***** insertions I might be allowed a little one every now and again.

The problem is that the written word, even a single one, can be very wounding indeed. One might think that a mere written (or typed) word would pale into insignificance when compared to, say, being assaulted by a large steel blade, but the fact is that a common saying usually becomes a common saying for good reason...because it's true. The pen is mightier than the sword!
