Grand Canyon Storms - Video
Grand Canyon Storms - Video http://www.bjornfredrickson.com/p869285128/h8c576f6b#h8c576f6b A friend and I traveled to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon last August. Summertime is monsoon season there so we were hoping for thunderstorms to photograph. "You should have been here last week," people kept telling us. "Wild, crazy weather." Photographers always hear that stuff. But we managed to get a few photos and videos during the lull in the weather. I made a slide show from the photos and I composed the soundtrack, mainly using Omnisphere. The fade-in at the beginning got cut off somehow. Thanks for watching.

Great Video!!!! The sounds were great, although I'm no Mix master and I just got through listening to some really loud music while mowing my yard on my MP3 ear buds so my ears are messed up volume and tone wise. But the only suggestion I would make on the mix would be to lower the treble, or clarity on everything, it's too crystal clear for my ears. Although like I just said I am not Mix Master and my hearing is kind of messed up right now. What I mean is, if I can hear it so crystal clear in my situation, then it has got to be a little bit too crystal for others. I'm just trying to help Man. I hope I don't upset you by saying that. I enjoyed the video and hearing everything, I'm just being honest. Actually I Loved the video footage, I am a fan of all Nature footage like this and the music sounded great!!!! But the mix, like I said I really probably shouldn't be comment on at this point in time. But I will say I think it needs some more Bass levels raised to bring up the tension and expression. But that's just me and my STUPID opinion! Enjoyed watching and hearing this one either way! Thanks for sharing! Bobby

Wow that footage was amazing and the music fitted it so well. I love industrial soundscapes and that reminded me of Atticus Ross (one of my personal favorites along with Trent Reznor). What was the percussion library you used? it sat so well in the mix. Great job!! Si
Its nice to be important but its more important to be NICE :-)

Bobby Regarding your critique of my soundtrack - well, I'll get over it one of these days - KIDDING! Actually I appreciate your opinion. I tweaked the EQ a bit and it does sound fuller with less of the highs and more of the lows. Thanks. David Thanks Si Thanks so much. I think the percussion you're asking about comes from NI Damage, the Apocalypse Tech patch.

Looks and sounds awesome! Excellent work! The shot of that house at about 1:55, is that your studio?

Daniel Well I wish that was my house. That's actually the Grand Canyon Lodge on the north rim. Thanks for the comments.

The visuals are really nice and can certainly tell they were captured at a high resolution. The music has a feel of what Tangerine Dream used to play before the start of their concerts, which they released as an album called Ambient Monkeys.

Adrian Thank you. I was a big TD fan (still am I guess) but don't think I've heard of their Ambient Monkeys release.
Allan Thanks so much. I really do appreciate the comments.

You've really captured the North Rim mood. I've been there half a dozen times throughout my life. I was actually there with my family last August! Your video work is outstanding, and that lightning you captured is spectacular. It's a really great video. I liked the editing, the time lapse - and how did that guy in the lodge window stay so still??? Again, really great work. Also, killer is the soundtrack - are you using Omnisphere 2? I just have Omni 1 but am curious about the upgrade to 2. Top notch - I'll put yer vid on whenever I need to get a little North Rim mojo going. thanks, -Tom

This is excellent, Bjorn. Stunning videography and photos, and the soundtrack, which could have stood on its own it was so good, suited it perfectly.

Tom If you saw a couple of nerdy guys with lots of camera gear at the Grand Canyon, that was us. And that guy in the video standing still at the window? Photoshop/Vegas Pro tricks. I was wondering if anyone would notice that. I find myself using Omnisphere (v2) quite a lot for the atmospheric stuff. I can't say that v2 is whole lot better than v1 though.
Phil Thanks! I enjoy putting music to video which keeps getting easier to do - the technical part that is.
Kenny Thanks! I've done some Native American music using Orange Tree Samples Mesa Wind which is excellent.

Bjorn, awesome project and results here. Excellent choice of sounds and pictures. I've made a few pictorial videos but nothing at this level. I would like to head out west one day and also see the Grand Canyon, and this video only confirms it would be a very awesome experience. Great footage and presentation. Very much enjoyed this share Bjorn! Dean.

I very much enjoyed that - the video was awesome. I never get tired of watching clouds "evolve" like that. As for the music, it fits the video well and I think it's one of your strongest pieces! Inspiration and all...

It works well as a soundtrack, which is what you were trying to accomplish. I'm not sure that many people would buy it to just listen to as music though since it doesn't have a definable melody they can sing or hum. On the other hand, somebody's buying those "trance" records, so what do I know....

Great great stuff. Excellent marriage of video and music. I wouldn't change a thing about the music. Very tiny suggestion, if you happen to re-open the project for editing: it is a little bit jarring to see still pictures after so much video. Maybe add a pan/zoom effect to the stills so they all appear to have movement, like the pan and zoom you added on the closing photo. Enjoyed it, thanks for sharing.

That was nicely done! The music seemed a bit ominous for the cloud shaping but as it grew darker, it worked. I've only been there once and your production took me back. Thanks.
