Great news: Rapture 1.1 free update coming

Hello,

according to this interview with new Cakewalk CTO Noel Borthwick:

http://www.cakewalknet.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=468&Itemid=2

The following statement is VERY interesting: D

"We will soon be announcing a new free Rapture 1.1 update with lots of new features and expanded platform support.
New Dimension Pro expansion packs will soon ship as well as a new Session Drummer 2 Hip Hop Pack"

WOW, Rapture is being updated with new features!

Sorry if this is old news for somebody :)

It's old news for me, but that's only because I've been making presets to show off the new features.

'New' news, 'old' news, 'borrowed' or 'blue' news, this is indeed great news for the end user. Hmm. Now what could you possibly add to this synth that brings it to the next level? Let the new feature speculation begin ...

Wow I have no idea. Rapture and Dimension are the vsti synths that keep on giving.
New banks, now two sets each and now an upgrade.
Perhaps it is a way of putting it way ahead of Monster and other competitive vsti synths.
    What wonderful news this is!
I wish we could pry some of the secrets out of Frank.
Well by his talking we know that there will be included some new banks. So this is expansion bank set three with new features added. How cool is that?

I wouldn't say an expansion 3 is coming, if it is, I don't know about it. But some very nice new features indeed, and some presets demonstrating those new features. Ok, that's enough, my lips are sealed...If I say more, I'll violate my NDA.

    Tempo-synced envelopes!!!!!
"Measure" marks in the Step Gens
More destinations for the Step Gens (e.g., Bit Red/Decimator)?
    OSC Sync?

I hope they include a control to adjust the sound quality output like rgcAudio's previous synths. At the moment, Rapture ships with a medium-quality sound output by default. To get the highest quality sound, you have to do a registry hack.

How can you say that Rapture (and Dimension ) ships with a medium quality output by default?

This info is quite misleading especially to future buyers of DimPro and Rapture.
It shouldve said: "At the moment, Rapture ships with a medium-quality sound output by default with MY DAW configuration."

    Background info is important here.

His comp has a bug that will not allow these synths to run at better setting. Got a consumer box I assume. If he'd up to a real daw with card he'd not be left out.

Good question, Bob. I've never actually 'built' a skin, but I know about the procedures. If the new features remain within the core 1.0 structure (as they did with Dimension 1.2, I believe), you should be all set. If the interface went through a total re-design, it sounds like your skins would need that as well. (What do I know? I do sound designs. )

But then again, you're going to make some special edition 1.1 skins anyway, aren't you?

The 'suspense' is killing me, too, but I'll find out about the actual release date when you do. I suspect that there's a lot involved with all of the hosts, platforms, and Vista arriving. These guys are very meticulous. At least we know that when 1.1 does come out, it won't be a rush job.

Unlike some other companies that I've purchased licenses from ...

Please include preset name search browser

Please in addition to the existing library can we have a plan for Libraries for specific styles of music that we can purchase as separate.

Latin, electronica, etc.... You can never have enough presets.

I don't think that anyone can honestly say that they've exhausted the possibilities in 1.0, Larry. That's OK, though: I'll take more. After analyzing this video clip like it was the Zapruder film, here's what I can glean of of it so far:

Tempo Sync for the envelopes: This is cool; something that most everyone wanted. I was never very taken by this before, but I can see some extensive possibilities now. For one, you can now build an envelope, and easily change the length of it proportionally to everything else going on.

DSP section and routings: Did you guys catch this? It looks to me like you can accomplish a whole lot just by switching among the 14 routings, without ever touching another control. I didn't catch all of the new Drives in the video, but I hear z3ta-like functions mentioned. Multiplied by three of them, arranged fourteen different ways along with the filters.

MIDI Learn everything: Anything you can see on the screen? That appears to take The Easter Egg and put it into overdrive. MIDI Learn the X-Y pad? Polyphony? Transpose? Global parameters? This is big.

Step Generators: Did anyone notice the zoomed frames on a Shot mode for the Stepgens? Just like the LFOs now. And if you can copy the LFO to the Stepgen, you can 'store' your favorite shapes in user-defined LFOs. You may not need to. Extracting the shape of a wavfile means you can use samples or oscillators as resources for the Stepgens.

That sure beats drawing them in by hand. Anyone for taking the a piano or vocal sample (or a whole song, for that matter), and instantly translating it into a control source for your filters, or pitch, or ... We just got ourselves another set of sync'ed 'envelopes', among many other potential uses.

Program Selector up front: You have to look close and listen for this one. I see a set of selection arrows in the program slot up top. It looks to me to be a very easy way to scroll through your presets now without opening up the Program Browser.

    Killer, indeed. Let's roll ...

Well, if an AMD Athlon 64 with Sonar 5 is a conumer box....

The issue is that Rapture can't do the highest quality sound in realtime without a registry hack (or, in Mac OS X, a library hack). I've never been able to figure out why Rene did it that way, but thankfully Rene told me how to fix it (thanks so much, Rene!!).

These were Rene's exact words to me last April:

The attached registry file will set the samples to play at a higher interpolation mode, the same Dimension Pro uses for realtime. On it, you shouldn't find more than a 10% of CPU increase depending on your system settings.

What I'm saying is that we should be able to choose the realtime sound quality output WITHOUT a registry hack. Most of the time I have it set to full quality. If you set it to the lowest settings, however, it gives you a gritty, lo-fi sound that might be useful in some cases. Again, only possible with a registry hack at the moment.

I do not know why but for as long as I've used all rgc/cakewalk synths I've had no reg hacks or problems. I have 2 AMD systems.

I tried Shayne's workaround (after backing up Everthing - including the registry) and I did notice an immediate improvement in Rapture's sound.
The CPU hit was increased only slightly for me, but the overall difference in the sound was much improved.
It's like a new instrument for me.
I would state also that Réne has posted plenty of caveats about trying it out, so try at YOUR OWN RISK*!!!
But in any case, Thanks Shayne.

Only a couple of very minor changes will be needed (i.e. new next/previous buttons, about box, etc.)

The update is hot and it's coming soon. I think it'll be out before Q3 this year.
