vintagevibe My favorite source: ToonTrack MIDI Packs The Toontrack midi collections aren't true GM compatible. In fact they are getting less GM compatible as the sample libraries get developed. That said, some folks find they work with an occasional tweak.

A big plus for the likes of Groove Monkee, Platinum Samples, Odd Grooves and Toontrack is the are not programmed, but played by a real drummer on an electronic kit. Groove Monkee has a wide range and have GM mappings along with mappings most major software drum programs, including Toontrack, BFD, and Steven Slate 4. Oddgrooves and Platinum samples have GM mapping too. I think Platinum also has BFD mapping and Oddgrooves, Toontrack, BFD, adictive Drums and Steven Slate (but only up to version 3.0??)

For the sake of more information, if you use Toontrack EZplayer as a shell for the Toontrack midi grooves and configure it for GM output when you DnD the grooves, they will be GM formatted.

Last question. I know it is a matter of taste, but what Drum plugin should i get ! I like the sound open, defined, Soft. No hard or plastic sounding Bass drum, Need to have a easy to use interface. I have tried Toontrack EzDrummer, that is great on the interface, but cheap sounding. Also tried Addictive drums, great interface, great realistic Kits, but i find it a bit too dynamic and hard to get control of the sound. So what is the option then !

My only real experience is with BFD. These samples are totally raw and unprocessed, but some of the presets are fully "mixed" using BFD's own plugins and some of them have a HUGE sound. There are also many expansion packs which you can buy to augment the basic kits BFD is practically infinitely tweakable - it's up to you exactly how far you take it

I'm still getting "reasonable" results from Battery but I also use BFD eco and SD3 for certain tasks.

If you are looking for a wide range of drums that sound great right out of the box and sit in a mix with minimal tweaking Steven Slate 4 fits the bill. If you like to tweak the sounds Toontrack's Superior Drummer is worth checking out. Its worth picking up one of the preset packs so you can see how the "name" producers arrive at the sounds. From your description of the sound you want I think you would find the Custom and Vintage expansion to your liking. Do you still have EZ Drummer? The Nashville expansion pack may be suitable. Also remember you can use the EZ Drummer kits in Superior Drummer where they become much more versatile.

I'll check the Steven slate, yea i want a drum kit that sound great right out of the " box " with minimal tweaking that sit right in the mix, more or less. i really don't need all the tweaking stuff, Well at least some simple tweaks, like overhead / room control / Customizing the kit's. What i would like is good soft open sounding kit's with loads of great and a big variety of grooves to choose from. All suggestions here is great, BFD 2 / Superior Drummer / Steven Slate 4 seems they all is great software, gonna be hard to decide :), Again thanks for all the info.

If you already have EZDrummer, I highly recommend getting an expansion kit. The Nashville is very good (and not just for country). I also like the Classic and Claustrophobic a lot. The new Rock Solid sounds tasty, but I've not got it yet. If you don't have EZDrummer, then it's worth the investment. Don't judge EZ by the stock kit, the EZX are far superior. I can't remember the last time I used the kit that comes with it. They sound great out of the box, and come with some fantastic grooves and fills played by good drummers. I don't tend to use the loops as I play drums, but they are very good and varied. I genuinely think it will fit your needs perfectly.
