Green Tea. Should I be concerned?

I drink quite a lot of green tea, several mugs a day, and usually they've gone cold before I manage to finish them.

I've noticed that the inside of the mug is usually in quite a state, stained, bits of who knows what, (tea leaves perhaps?) etc.

Question is, I'm tipping this stuff down my neck so should I be concerned about what it's doing to my stomach lining?

All comments from internet doctors, surgeons etc welcome....

The same kind of thing happens with coffee and regular tea.  I haven't heard of anyone quitting because of what their cups look like.  I'm not a medic, so I can't actually vouch for any health concerns, though.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

Don't drink it. It tastes like used bath water.

That's true to a degree but green tea, or the one I drink seems especially bad.

Green tea is a really good fat burner though so I prefer to drink that over regular tea. I'm sure it must be harmless but I always take a concerned glance before scraping the gunk off.

there is an advantage to the stains in a work enviroment

no one wants to borrow or use your coffee cup because of the "biology experiment" you are conducting in your cup..

however a big plus one for Green Tea, I hav efound certain brands are more tasty that  others

I know the feeling, I suppose bath water taste will also depend on any other little 'slips'.

I started drinking it (green tea, not bath water) as part of a very successful diet and hated the taste at first, but I have definitely acquired the taste for it, or perhaps it's an addiction.

the staining is your Tannin mate (the same stuff found in red wine, grapes, cranberries, chocolate).
Tannin is the shizzle and has many health benefits. Side effects are tooth discolouration and possibly migraines. You can prevent the migraine bit by taking iron supplements.

Drinking too much tea can cause kidney stones. All that sediment you see in the cup ... that's just the tiny bit left over after you've slurped down the rest of it.

Tea's, powder drinks such as Kook Aid, those little Crystal Light water flavoring packets ... all that stuff in excess can cause kidney stones.

My mom used to make ice tea by the gallons. People loved it and they'd stop in for some throughout the day during the summer. Friends, neighbors, and guys my brother worked with in the Police department. It was a small town and everybody knew everybody.

She used a gallon pickle jar, all cleaned out of course, and made the tea in it. She'd boil it on the stove for a while, then mix it with water, sugar, and ice in the jug. It was so cloudy you could shine a flash light on the side of the jar and you couldn't see light through the other side. I drank it for years, and look at me ... I turned out ok. Right? ;-)

Bub - there are also studies that green tea helps prevent kidney stones :)
The trouble is with all of these studies, is that I never know what to believe.
Tea's been around and been used as a preventitive medicine for centuries.
My mother in law is 85 and has drunk tea by the gallon all her life and is as fit as a butcher's dog. She takes nothing except an occasional Ibroprufen for a headache.

Lots of healthy things have staining properties, and the color is what makes it healthy. Look at beets, raspberries, strawberries etc. The more colorful your food is, the better it is for you (breakfast cereals are exempt from this rule).

It can definitely stain your teeth though. Green tea is much easier on your teeth than black tea, but nonetheless...I always rinse my mouth with water after drinking coffee or tea.

Putting boiling water with vinegar in the cup is a good way to loosen the stain so you can scrub it off.

There are few  drinks in the world that are proven to have as many positive effects to your health as green tea.
I grind the leaves first, so that I also drink all the leaves with the tea.

In one research they came to the conclusion that the "japanese way" (grinding the leaves) helps better to prevent stomach- and such cancers than the "chinese way" (leaving the leaves whole).

I believe drinking the bagged green teas leaves you without most of the positive effects.

It definitely helps with weight loss. If I follow five days of the "17 day diet" (which is great BTW) and drink green tea I can lose a pound a day fairly easily.

If I don't drink green tea the weight loss is about half that. It really makes a difference.

The 17 day diet is high protein - low carbs, very healthy as diets go and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to lose weight in a safe rapid way.

Just make sure you drink lots of green tea.

Why should everything taste goooood/delicious? Green tea is like water with a good health boost. When you notice what it does to your stomach and psyche etc., you start to want it. I think people should consiously get themselves more used to foods and flavors that are more "plain" and light.
The western folks are sugar addicts, fat addicts, salt addicts...you name it. It's like EQing. People feel tempted to boost when they should cut.

And talking about food, we have also seriously confused the concepts of what need, and what we want. Or, well, that is a general confusion...the richer the country, the more severe....

BTW...Trivia. When I went to China I thought everybody there drinks (green) tea about a gallon a day. In fact, tea is so expensive, that for example construction workers had mostly only hot water in their thermos, as well as folks in the clothing factories. Tough.

I can understand that.  I actually developed a craving for chamomile tea at one time.

I drink a fair amount of Lapsang Souchong too which many people I know don't seem to understand my liking for.

I know Green Tea is high in anti-oxidants I'm not too convinced of some of the things that are claimed for it by its staunchest advocates though, which of course isn't any concern at all if you've developed a taste for it and enjoy it.

There's nothing as cool as a boosted low-shelf around the bottom end, a couple of pronounced bell curves in the upper-mids can help too.

The Bapu is far more acrid pungent S-P-I-C-Y than green tea, therefore will likely appeal only to the most devoted of connoisseurs.
