Many many years ago, Groove Agent was the first drum package i had - it NEVER worked properly, so I paid to upgrade to V 2 and V 3 but these didn't work as they should either, so I gave up with Steinberg - to be honest, the problem was partly with Groove Agent, but mainly with Steinberg who I thought were a disreputable company, with atrocious after sales.
Did they ever get Groove Agent to work as it should? The major problems, if I remember correctly were with output of Midi that matched what you had programmed in Groove Agent - it could not output that Midi in full - also you had to use a third party midi looper program to make it work at all if I remember.
Secondly, have Steinberg themselves improved? Their service in my experience was possibly some of the worst I had ever experienced.
    Cheers

Groove Agent 4 was a complete rewrite, so there isn't much reminiscent of GA 1-3.  Version 5 is in many ways incremental to GA 5.  It works well enough with Cubase and has some interesting features like complexity knob, percussion linking, etc.  It has a little bit of a learning curve.  There are a bunch of expansions for it.

The Groove Agent of today is really not the same instrument as the original Groove Agent, it has gone in a completely different direction in a lot of ways. It also looks as if Steinberg is using the HALion platform to build on much as UVI and even Kontakt so they can share a common "engine" so to speak.

I still have Groove Agent 2 and 3 installed as I have enjoyed using them in the past. A lot of MIDI issues were due to the fact that in the early days of Cakewalk adapting VST compatibility the wrappers just did not work that well. I almost exclusively use J-Bridge as my VST wrapper of choice and have found it very stable.

I have yet to really dive into Groove Agent 5 but look forward to discovering.
