Groove Clip Looping

Using Sonar Artist I recorded a couple of riffs for a project that I'm working on.
Instead of playing the passage over and over and blowing it on the third pass. I decided to take the best part of it and create a groove clip.

The first one worked out perfect.
The second one I ended up doing a few takes before I got what I wanted. I split it on both ends and deleted what I didn't need.
I previewed the loop and it worked out pretty good.

I then tried to to convert it to a groove clip. I get a message saying that hidden data will be deleted, and I hit O.K. Every time I do it though it shrinks the clip and speeds the whole thing up. I didn't change any of the settings from the first clip I made, so I don't know whats going on.

I tried messing with the loop construction thingy, but I don't know what the hell I'm doing.
Any advice, tips, or tricks would be appreciated.

This can happen when Sonar incorrectly detects the bpm or number of beats in the loop.
First you want to make sure you trim the audio to an even number of bars and beats e.g. 2 whole bars, not 1 bar with an extra crotchet.
Once you've turned it into a groove clip, try double clicking on the loop to bring up the Loop Construction and changing the number of beats to the correct number. So (assuming you're in 4/4) if it's a one bar loop you want 4 beats, 2 bars - 8 etc.

Hope that helps.

Also, try the Bounce To Clip action.

Open the inspector and you will see the groove clip properties options.
Use this to tell Sonar how long the clip is (4 beats, 8 beats, exc).
Sonar typically does a good job at this but sometimes it farts like anything else in this world.

Apparently throwing in a few triplets caused the groove to extend beyond two measures. That's about how much it was shrinking too.

I slid it back two beats and was able to create the groove clip without shrinking, but it sounded like crap. I then opened the Loop Construction and changed the beat from 16 to 18 and that did the trick.

@chuckebaby...I will defiantly look into that option as well, but right now It's time for NASCAR and beer. ;)

Thanks for the help guys!

its basically the same idea Toneboxii was referring to except you don't have to open loop construction view to do it.

Rock on  and enjoy the race.
