Groove clip copies not snapping to grid
I can roll out copies of a MIDI groove clip ok, but they do not snap to the grid. I have the Track snap-to grid set to 'measure' (have tried other durations as well). Wherever I stop my drag is where the copy ends--the entire clip does not extend to the end of the measure. IOW, I position the cursor over the right edge of the clip, and drag. The clip begins to appear, and I would think that when I let up on the mouse, the entire clip would fill the measure. But wherever I stop is where the copy ends. It's as if I'm slip-editing the clip. However, if I drag a clip, it moves to the next snap point just fine. IOW, if I click on a clip and drag it to the right, the entire clip moves to the next measure, with snap-to set at 'measure'. Am I misunderstanding how a groove clip interacts with the snap-to setting? I'm using Sonar 5.

"the entire clip would fill the measure. But wherever I stop is where the copy ends" - I don't follow this exactly. if you click and drag a clip while your snap to setting is set to measure then it should drop the beginning of the clip at the nearest measure beginning. is that not what's happening?

This is from Sonar 8.5. Open the Snap to grid Properties and make sure that Magnetic Strength is set to OFF. Below is a link to what it looks like in my program. I can no longer post visible screencaps for some reason. http://img.photobucket.co...kewalk/SnaptoGrid1.jpg

Sonar 5 did not have the magnetic strength option. Beagle, yes, when I drag out a groove clip, it is not copying an entire measure at a time when the snap is set to 'measure'. As I drag, it simply extends the clip. It's not a showstopper, since I can just be careful where I stop the drag, but the doc says dragging should be controlled by the snap setting. It says slip editing is controlled by the snap, and I'm not seeing that either.

Right click the clip and look at its properties. What is the number in the box labeled Beats in Clip?

Am clicking as per the help: "at the end or beginning of the clip." Clicking and dragging from the middle of the clip moves the clip. It seems like the correct copy behavior; it's just the snap aspect that doesn't seem to work as described.

can you post some screen shots of what happens when you do this? it doesn't make sense if you're dragging it correctly that it won't snap to the grid settings.

agreed, it makes no sense. Probably not worth any more cycles for a version 5 issue. Thanks for your help, Beagle.

It really sounds like the clip is acting like a normal clip and not a groove clip. Where are these groove clips coming from?
