Groove clip looping

Hi.

I have been mucking around with inporting audio into sonar LE X1.

I import a whole song and select 4 measures (beats) to loop.  I then slice the audio from either side of the loop area and delete those bits of audio, so all that is left is the section I have selected for looping.  So far so good.

I then move the loop clip to the beginning of my track.  I right clieck on the audio and select groove clip looping.  Now it displays the audio that I deleted so it now shows the whole song again.

Also I cant get the adio clip to change to the BMP of the click in my project.  Loop construction view seems a bit redundant to me but thats just because I dont really understand how to use it.

Can anyone help please.

Thanks.

    Just an update.

I recorded some audio. Then sliced the end from it so it was four beats in length.  I then applied groove clip lopping and the clip was stretched to 6 and half bars and is now slower.

    Why is this happening

    Please help.

    Thanks.

I wish I could help, but I've never groove-looped audio.

    Why is this happening?
I'm not sure what is happening in your first post, but this is fairly normal for Groove Clips.
I'm guessing you meant 4 measures?
The Groove Clip algorithm attempts to guess how many beats are in a clip, and it almost always guesses wrong, especially if you are not using the metronome.
If you have selected a clip that is 4 measures at 4/4, we know this will be 16 beats.
When you open the loop Construction View, it probably shows something like 28 beats.
Change the Beats In Clip value to 16, and the clip should line up properly.
It's all about the time reference embedded in the Groove Clip.
What you end up with needs to be the same as what you started with. More often than not, this requires some adjustment.

    Hey.

When I recorded the audio I was using the metranome.

I will give what you said a go.  I have tried and tried to use loop construction view but it baffles me a bit.  I understand what its for but when I try to make alterations with it things seem to go wrong.

But I will keep trying as I want to understand as much as I can about sonar.

Thanks for the replys so far,  they do help.

These forums are a great thing as some of the help, instructions and even you tube videos dont cover everything or cover certain scenarios.

    Sorry.

Also it seems a bit of a shortfall with sonar that groove clip looping dosnt work as well as it could do.

I would have thought that a programme like sonar would have a repeat or looping action built in that would just repeat exactlly what you want it to without having to go to the trouble it seems to throw up.

Seems a bit of an oversight.

When I see Pro tool clips on you tube they show someone hightlight a clip and enter the number of times they want to loop the clip and hey presto, it repeats the clip that number of times.

Just a bit of feedback from a new user.

Sorry if it seems like a moan.

    Hi Phase90
I only just started using sonar for the 1st time yesterday so i really havnt got a clue how to use it yet.
Today i have been trying to create a simple looped backing track with drums and bass to go along with me playing rythm guitar.
I have to agree with you it is not easy to use.It is a real struggle just to do what should be the most simple thing.Hopefully it will get easyer as we understand it more.

Sorry i cant help you.I just thought i would let you know youre not alone.

    Hi Stum 74.

Funny thing is I tried audio looping today again and managed to use the groove clip looping succesfully.

First I created the loop by playing a four bar synth part (physical synth with a lead going from the synth to soundcard)

Then instead of quantizing first I deleted the end of the take so the audio is exactly four bars (there was some excess audio going into the 5th bar).

I then just applyed groove clip looping and it worked perfectly.

I still need to figure the loop construction view properly as I cant seem to apply it properly yet.

    Good luck with using Sonar.

It does seem to be a really good piece of software but some applications on it could be more user friendly.

Just an opinion of a layman.
