Guitar Cab Impulse Responses
Greetings Folks,
Looking to find someone who is familiar with the IR's that emulate guitar cabs. I've heard a lot of clips via youtube of folks who use them, and they achieve some stunning guitar tones by using them. My problem is that I'm really at a loss of how to get them to work properly with the equipment I have.
I plug my guitar into a POD HD Bean (Desktop POD). This device also acts as my sound card, and connects to my PC via USB. I have Sonar Producer 8.5 for my DAW, and I've downloaded the KeFIR impulse loader. (I can try to provide more information on that if needed).
Basically, from what I understand, most folks use an amp sim (Guitar Rig, Amplitube, etc) first in the effects chain of a track. They open up a preset within the amp sim software, but disable the cab simulator portion. The next item in the chain is the impulse loader (in my case, KeFIR). You then load an impulse into KeFIR, and you *should* hear a beautiful guitar tone.
For me, this is just not the case. For starters, I do not have an amp sim software. But I'm thinking I SHOULD be able to use the POD in it's place. I was playing around with creating a new tone in my POD, but just choosing an amp. No cab, no effects, etc. I then open SONAR, new track, and I can hear the tone from the POD as always. At this point it is very fizzy sounding, I imagine how the amp sounds with no cab. I then load the KeFIR impulse loader, and load up an IR.
Now, the best way for me to determine that the tone is not correct is because I've got a set of Metallica emulated IR's. When I load one of them, for example, an IR that emulates the ..And Justice For All album, I KNOW how that tone should sound, but it doesnt sound right. An audio clip that the place I downloaded them from sounded PERFECT, so I know the IR sounds accurate - if everything is set up properly - which, in my case, I'm sure it isn't
Long story short(er), does anyone use a POD HD Bean with a DAW (preferably SONAR), and use these types of IR's? Thank you all in advance,
Shaun
