There are a bunch of free guitar plug-ins here: http://www.voxengo.com/group/free-vst-plugins/ I'm always hesitant to download free stuff, but Voxengo is a reputable company and they might have what you're looking for. If not, a search for 'free guitar VST plug-ins' will net you hundreds of results. Download with caution. Do you have any audio effects at all when you right-click in an audio track's FX (effects) bin?

Did you unzip it (if it was zipped)? Open SONAR and click Tools>Plug-in Manager. Click the VST Configuration Options button. Click Add. Navigate to the file location and click, or double-click the .dll file. That should add it to the list of VSTs to be scanned. Then click the Scan button in the Plug-in Manager. The VST should be added to your available effects. Close (save, if it asks) and re-open SONAR then see if you can use it. Good luck!

Hi Gregy, thanks for your advice but have followed it to the letter and cannot get it to find voxengo at all. It has been unzipped correctly too...

I downloaded the Voxengo Tube Amp thingy and at first the scanner failed to find it, even when I dragged the .dll file into the VST folder. So I RTFM. I says to unzip the file directly into the VST folder, which I did and the scanner found it this time. It works, too. I also tried the 64-bit version first for this 64-bit computer, but I'm running SONAR in 32-bit mode, so I went back to Voxengo and downloaded the 32-bit version. One, or the other is working.
