Guitar Rig 4 LE Problem

I recently purchased Sonar X1 Producer. I wanted effects on my guitar so I installed Guitar Rig but the guitar did not recognise it. Eventually, I got it to recognise the guitar but only when I use Guitar Rig as a standalone application, not in Sonar. Does anyone have an idea about why this is happening? My settings in Sonar are set the same as they are in the standalone Guitar Rig (like I/O, amp settings, bit depth etc.) so I am stumped. Any help would be appreciated!

So, are you adding an instance of GR4 into the Effects Bin? If so, then that should be all you need to do, apart from opening up the effect window and selecting a preset...

Sorry, I should have said that. I have already got the guitar rig up and running in the sonar effects bin, turned on with all the amps turned on and a preset selected. Like I said, the settings are the same in the sonar Guitar Rig as they are in the Standalone one but the guitar is not recognising it.

Hmmm... I'm at work right now, so I can't check, and I'm also running guitar Rig 5, not 4, but I'll have a look later and get back here, unless someone has beaten me to it ;^)

Check the Rig Control 1 setting.....you may have it selected to the wrong channel in the stand alone version....goto Options, preferences then look for the Rig Control 1 setting.

Ok I tried left and right channels and the off setting on the Rig control 1 but it still only works standalone, not in Sonar.
Do you think it might be because I am having trouble registering? Do the effects not work if you haven't registered? Or does that have nothing to do with it...

    EDIT:
The annoying thing is I had already registered but I had to re-install guitar rig to fix another problem I had with it, and for some reason this made the registration screen come up in Sonar like it did when I first installed it. Whenever I put my registration code in, it says it is 'invalid' even though it worked the first time round.

Are you sure GR4 is turned on it the effects bin ?? There's a little round circle there that needs to be clicked so it's a lighted blue circle.

Are you getting the guitar signal at all (you can hear the guitar but not GR4)? If not then make sure the track is set to receive the input signal.

    This is very strange...

Strange indeed. Is the GR4 button in the FX bin clicked on (i.e. blue)?

Sorry didn't see dj's post. Are you recieving input in GR4?

Oh and click the echo button on your track. It kind of looks like the "Explosive" warning you'd find on an aerosol can.

In the GR4 UI is the slider on the Out meter at an appropriate level? Are the units in the rack all switched on (right hand side of unit, top button)? Apologies if it seems I'm insulting your intelligence.

Well, I had already registered but like I said I had to reinstall Guitar Rig 4 using the Sonar installation disc (because of another unrelated issue I had with it) and the registration screen has come up when I open Sonar ever since (the one that says you have so many days to register and you have to put your registration code in.) It still comes up and no matter how many times I put the correct registration code in, it says it is invalid. I want to contact tech support about it but as you probably know they are not available until the 9th.

    EDIT:
Beepster: the echo wasn't on, but I turned it on and still no difference
miguelito: yeah I've done all of that

Use "Run As Administrator" to open the program then try registering. That should fix the registration issue. You only have to do that when registering.

Are you manually typing in the codes or are you copying/pasting? Don't copy paste. You should always manual type that stuff in as a lot of times there are safety features in place to avoid fraudulent registrations. Also, did you try that Echo button thing I mention as well? That happened to me first time I plugged into X1.

Also check your input routing to be certain you have the correct input selected for your track (I've done that one far too many times too).

I'd double check you bus routings to make sure you're routed to a proper output. Also check the levels on the bus sliders. You should be getting a good strong guitar signal into the busses. Make sure the output of the channel is routed to a bus, and that your dry guitar signal is coming thru.

But even without a bus he should be able to hear the guitar and GR5. That bus stuff is just a little extra recording trick for when he gets going.

Wow! I just opened Sonar after manually entering the code (with no luck) and Guitar Rig started working!! I don't have a clue what was causing it to not work... Thanks for the help anyway guys! Now to sort out the registration problem... is there anything else I could do Beepster to make the registration work?

Okay. Just wanted to make sure you had access to the update/extra content. Your registered products should be listed for access to the SNs and stuff too which is handy. Cheers and happy picking. Sorry I couldn't pinpoint your problem.

And you can always call NI to figure out the registration issue. They have a toll free number for US residents.

Oh wait a minute I know what's wrong...you have to go to the Native Instruments website and download the 4.02 version update....the version that comes on the Sonar disk didn't work for me either, and I found out that I had to download the update...it's a freebee..after that it should work....
