Guitar Tracks Pro 3 vst plugs
I have had guitar tracks pro three for 2 years now. I run it well. I also have Sony Sound Forge 9. I have access to all of the effects on both of them. But i would like more effects is there a way to add effects? And is there a free vst wrapper that would still allow me to use all my effects. Plus I have a Line 6 Toneport Gx for a sound card and guitar effects. Thanks, Paul

Hi there Paul There are thousands of VST effects available to download from the web that will work perfectly with GT3. Some you have to purchase (the better ones can be very expensive) but the majority are absolutely free. To get you going, take a look at THIS THREAD for some top quality free effects, and check out THIS THREAD where I've listed some links to find all sorts of great free VST's. There is a general procedure to follow once you've downloaded a VST effect before it can be used in a GT3 project. Before you start downloading though, I would advise you create a new folder somewhere on your hard drive in which you can save all your VST's. GT3 has its own VST wrapper, so you needn't worry about having to find one. Anyway, here's what to do: - Download the effect to your newly created VST plug-in folder
- As most downloads will be compressed files, you'll need to unzip them before they will work; if you don't have a program to unzip compressed files, download the excellent (and free) ZipGenius from HERE
- You now need to run the VST Adapter; to do this, open GT3 and:
- From the menu bar, select Tools > VST Configuration Wizard
- On the screen that appears, click on Add and then use the browser window that opens to navigate to the VST plug-in folder into which you saved the new plug-in
- Highlight the folder and click on OK and then on Next to start the process of scanning for plug-ins
- Once the scan has finished, you will see a screen showing all the VST's available to GT3 - check that your new plug-in has a 'Y' (for 'yes') in the Enabled column and then click on Next
- Finally, a screen will appear showing the message: Your VST plug-ins were configured successfully, and are now available to your applications - now click on Finish to close the wizard
- For the new effect to be recognised, you will have to close and then re-open GT3
- To make certain the effect has been successfully installed for GT3 to use, right click in the FX Bin of a track and select Audio Effects - the VST should open when you click on its name
Hope that helps Paul Steve

This was just the thread I've been looking for. However when clicking on "Tools" on my Guitar tracks pro 3 I do not have a VST configuration selection? Is there anywhere else I can look for this to use different plug ins?

Is there anywhere else I can look for this to use different plug ins? Hello there Tedd, and welcome to the forum. If the Configuration Wizard (also known as the 'VST Adapter') doesn't appear in your Tools menu, you can run it in 'standalone' mode without even needing to open GTPro3: - Start > Programs > Cakewalk > Cakewalk VST Adapter 4
Open the final folder and then just double click on the Cakewalk VST Adapter 4 icon - I'd also advise you to download the patch to update the Adapter to the latest version - download it from HERE. The patch not only updates the Adapter, it will also make it available to run from the Tools menu in GTPro3. Hope that gets you going, let me know if you have any problems with it. Steve

Hey Steve, Thanks for the information. You're awesome man! I'm still working on this one. I've got the update downloaded and now can see the configuration wizard from my GT3. However when I highlight the folder in my documents "Amplitube_3_3.7" it brings it down to the screen on the configuration Wizard but when it searches for "plug-ins" it finds nothing? It brings me to the Plugin configuration and it's blank? I'm sure it's "user error" on my part. Just trying to figure it out. Thanks so much for your help Tedd

No problem Tedd, glad to try and help! The version of Amplitube that is bundled with GT3 may have already been recognised during the installation process. Try this: In the Mix View, right click inside a track's effects bin and click on Audio Effects - you should see AmplitubeLE listed. Just click on the name to open it. You will have to follow the onscreen instructions to register it within 10 days to avoid having to use it in demo mode. If it's not there, you'll need to direct the VST Adapter to the folder Amplitube .dll plug-in is located: - Computer > OS(C) > Program Files > Cakewalk > Shared Plug-ins > IK Multimedia > Amplitube LE
The version of Amplitube that ships with GT3 is quite a way out of date now Tedd. IK Multimedia currently offer a free version of Amplitube 3. It contains a few amp models, speaker cabs and effects - all in all enough to get you started and much better than the LE version you already have. Once you've downloaded and installed it, you can also use it in standalone mode. If you want to purchase new amps and effects for it in future, you can click on the Custom Shop link in the top right hand corner of the Amplitube 3 interface. By way of comparision, the bundled AmblitubeLE interface looks like this: Here's a screenshot of my version of Amplitube 3, with the Soldano amp (I purchased later) - you can see how much more sophisticated it is! You can also view the speaker cabinet options, the stompbox options and the rack options in the main pane. If you're interested, the free version of Amplitube 3 is available to download from HERE. For future VST plug-ins you might want to use, I'd recommend creating two specific VST Plug-in Folders to hold all the plug-ins you wish to add. The way I've always done it is to create one folder to hold all the downloads, and another folder just to hold the plug-in .dll's (the 'dll is the actual plug-in itself that the VST Adapter needs to scan). I have a folder in my Documents folder named VST Downloads, and a folder I created inside the Cakewalk Folder to hold the .dlls - I call this VST Plug-ins. Create it here: Computer > OS(C) > Program Files > Cakewalk > VST Plug-ins It may seem a little over-complicated to have two such folders but long term you will see that it's a much more efficient way to organise your effects. Most plug-ins you download will only be available as Zip Files. You will have to unzip them before proceeding. Some effects only require downloading, unzipping and then scanning with the Adapter before they work, others will actually require installing. Those that require installing will give you the option at some stage to choose which folder to install the plug-in - as a general rule, always install the actual program itself to your normal Programs folder (e.g. C > Program Files), and always choose your newly created VST Plug-ins folder to install the plug-in itself (the .dll). Another method I'd recommend (providing you are happy that the website is safe), especially with VST's that require installing an accosiated program, is to choose Save as the download option, in preference to Run. That way, if ever the plug-in should become corrupt or unusable for any reason, you have the installer or the unzipped .dll to fall back on. Although you could always download the product again, a lot of very good plug-ins have been discontinued and you may never get the chance o use it again. By way of an example (work through it with me if you like Tedd - it might help!), here's how I'd go about downloading a new plug-in and then making it available to use in GT3 - I'll use the very useful Variety Of Sound Baxter EQ as my example (I'll assume you have already created the two folders in the locations I listed above). Go to Variety Of Sound website HERE, scroll down to the row containing Baxter EQ and click on Download Choose Save and navigate to VST Downloads as your destination folder. Open the folder and unzip the downloaded file (I'd suggest using the unzip option to place the contents into a new folder and then you'll have everything you need nice and tidy! You can even place the downloaded zip file in there to keep all the stuff associated with each plug-in together). Open the newly created BaxterEQ folder and inside (assuming you've dragged the original downloaded zip file in there) you should see four items - the zip, the BaxterEQ .dll, the Text Licence agreement and the PDF manual: Copy the BaxterEQ.dll file, then open the VST Plug-ins folder and paste it inside. Run the VST Adapter and make sure to Add the VST Plug-ins folder when the screen opens. Once the VST Adapter has finished, either open GT3, or if you started the VST Adapter from the GT3 Tools menu, you will have to close and then re-open GT3. In the Mix View, right click in a track's effects bin, select Audio Effects > VST Plugins and you should now see BaxterEQ listed as one of the options. Click on it to open the plug-in. Hope that all makes sense Tedd, just get back to me if you need anything explained in more detail. Steve

Steve, Gracias my man. I've got it almost there I think. I followed your instructions and now show Baxter in the GTP3. What a cool program. I'm still not able to get the Amplitube 3 to import in as a VST plugin. Do I need to create individual fx in Amplitube and then save and then import them into GTP3? Or can I unzip a folder and do it all at once and then tweak my tones? Also when in Amplitube 3 (which is a great program) after tweaking a few things and adding a few stomps here and there, when I click save it does not save it as a .dll file? I just need a little more help my friend. You're info so far has helped me out greatly and I thank you very much!! Tedd

Hi Tedd. LOL - I haven't used GT3 is ages so I've installed it onto my old PC to help me remember how to do all this stuff I'll go through the download process for Amplitube 3 on this computer as I already have it on the newer one. If you're around for a while, I'll give you a step by step as I work through the installation. Either way, I'll list each stage in the next post or two.

I guess I'm trying to find where the .dll for amplitube 3 is located so I can bring it into the VST adapter. For some reason I'm not finding it anywhere on my machine. I have it saved to my desktop but cannot find the file I need to bring into the VST adapter to run in GTP3?

I see, if I remember correctly, Amplitube 3 is one of the programs that has to be installed and you have to tell it where to add the .dll. I'll soon find out! Downloading now...

Okey-dokey, I think I've solved your problem During the installation, by default, the installer creates a brand new folder to store the 'dll - it's located here C:\Program Files\VstPlugIns You can do either of two things from here. - Either: open the VST Adapter and add the newly created C:\Program Files\VstPlugIns folder to the list of folders to scan
- Or (much better): open the new folder and copy the .dll across to the VST Plug-ins folder you created earlier (where you added the BaxterEQ) and scan that folder again
That should do it

My man you rule! Thanks so much. If I wasn't across the pond I'd buy you beers! I've never used plug ins before so sorry for being so naive with all of this. I've always just mic'd up an amp in my studio while using GTP3. Here's a link to my Youtube channel. Check it out when you get a chance. http://www.youtube.com/user/TJScarlett69 Thanks again Steve! It has opened in GTP3 and the browser is refreshing so hopefully this is the last step. I really appreciate your help my man TJ

When you downloaded Amplitube 3 how did you register it? Everytime I get to that page it's requesting a serial number to input? I didn't receive any such thing while downloading that program. Did you?

Did you? Did you have to create an account when you downloaded it? I already have an IK User Account so I just downloaded it from there - I can't remember what happens with a fresh installation. If you have an account, you'll have to sign in and navigate to the User Area, then select the Downloads link. The serial should be listed there. If you don't have an account, I assume you'll have to create one. The authorisation screen appears everytime you open Amplitube I think.

I do online lessons and I'll be sure to get you a copy of that particular lesson if you like for all the help you've given me. I'm now trying to figure out why when I bring in the VST plugin to GTP3 and set my ASIO drivers why it's not recognizing the programs? Before it recognized Amplitube LE but now it's not even creating playback for that since I brought in Amplitube 3. The saga continues my friend. LOL! Any ideas?

Tedd (is it Tedd, or Ted - or do you prefer TJ?) - in Amplitube 3, click on Settings > AudioMIDI setup and select ASIO in the top field, and your soundcard in the Input Device field: The next thing to try is to open GT3 and select Options > Audio and click on the Advanced Tab - make certain the Share Drivers With Other Programs box is checked. You may have to close and restart GT3 to effect the change. If that fails, you may also need to reset the Playback Timing Master and the Recording Timing Master in GT3 to your soundcard's output and inputs. Open Options > Audio and click on the General Tab - if your soundcard isn't showing in either or both of those fields, try using the dropdown arrow to see if it's listed - if it is, click on it to select it. If it's not there, open the Advanced tab and make certain you have ASIO selected as the driver mode. If not, select it and click on OK - you will have to follow the onscreen prompts to restart GT3. Hope that works mate, I'm off to bed now - I'll check in tomorrow to see if you got it working OK.

I just remembered something - if ASIO is already selected in GT3 as the driver mode and you're still getting no joy, you might have to 'force' it to change drivers. Change the driver mode to WDM/KS and click on OK - follow the prompts to close and re-open GT3. After the Wave Profiler has run, change the driver mode back to ASIO, and perform the same close/reopen.

tedd Oh Tedd, TJ whatever suits me fine. LOL! I got it working. Can't thank you enough Steve! Thanks for the help. 'Tedd' it is then When you use the custom shop option do you just do the same process to save those to your VST plugin folder? No, it's actually far simpler than that! To purchase a bit of kit from the Custom Shop, first make sure you have Amplitube open in standalone mode. Then click on the Custom Shop link up near the top right of the interface. You will have to sign in to your IK account on the screen that opens. To buy amps/cabs/effects etc, you first have to purchase 'Credits' which can be redeemed for the items you want. If you do planning on buying a few items, I'd recommend working out how many Credits you're going to need in total and then buy a big enough bundle to be able to get them all in one transaction. The reason for this is, as you can see, the more credits you buy together, the cheaper they work out per credit. Also be aware that every purchase you make from IK adds a certain number of 'Jam Points' to your account. These Jam Points can be used as part-payment of any future purchases. If I remember correctly, you are allowed to use Jam Points (providing you have enough of course) to pay for up to 50% of the purchase price of any item. Anyway, back to acquiring new gear and using it in GT - each item in the Custom Shop is available to 'Try' or 'Buy' - the links appear to the right of each item: As you can see from the 'German Gain' amp at the bottom, it even tells you what you've already purchased. To 'Try' an item, just click on the link, follow the onscreen prompts and the item will then be automatically added to your installation of Amplitube 3. Incidentally, that's why you have to have Amplitube 3 open when you purchase new gear. I think you get 48 hours of full functionality before the item stops working Tedd, and obviously, you are only allowed to try an item once. To 'Buy' an item, the process is pretty much the same, apart from a screen where you get to use any Jam Points you have and then part with your Credits. Once you've added any new gear, just make certain that it's all working before closing the standalone version of Amplitube 3. To use your new gear in GT3, all you need to do is open Amplitube 3 in a track's Effects Bin as usual. You won't need to perform a fresh VST scan because the new amp/cab etc will already be installed to the plug-in. I'd advise signing up to receive their newsletter too Tedd, or even just checking out the Custom Shop regularly as they often offer some of the gear for free - for example just the other week I picked up a free Fender Dual-Showman model for nothing, I see it's back on sale for 15 Credits now.
