Guitar display-

I mentioned that I got very sick while building this
case and wondering if I was having a reaction to red oak.
My wife caught whatever it was too...wasn't the wood.

I'm on hold waiting on some tools...not geared for cabinet
making and pretty pleased with the box joints -which is a first.

The guitar case material will be on the back panel too. Waiting
on a router bit so I can fit that and glass for the door.

Thought I'd show it off before it's finished.
It's for the first guitar I made.
If it seems like folks are interested I'll post it when completed.

Wow...  Anyone else think it's humorous that Spacey guitar case is better built than most guitars?

    Good job (so far)!

    real nice spacey,
i made a similar one about 4 years ago out of mahogony.
it was a 2 bay thought.
do your self a favor and mount one of those small lights in the top
(the kind they use for under the kitchen cabinettes)
i mounted three in mine and it went from being really cool to something people would stop and stare at when ever they entered my studio.
i placed to old hollowbodys in them,a harmony and a voxx
both have the bigsby whammy bars and the crome on them glare in your eyes like candy.

Humorous isn't the right word, but it's not surprising either.

    Thank ya guys.

I did look at some LED "disc" lights and the kit was 99 dollars and really
didn't want any wires so I'll probably just put a couple of the battery powered LED lights.

If I built for more than one guitar I'd go for a floor standing unit.
I may do that someday as I like to keep guitars handy and it would
sure help keep them clean- then there is the controlled environment benefit.

Well it's been a trip...much different than building a guitar lol. I had to make a jig to
do the box joints and buy a dado blade for my table saw. The blade is a cheap one
and it was a 100 dollars...the pro blades hit 300 easy. The cheap one cuts good in that
it doesn't chip the wood but the blades aren't exactly even so I had to file every slot
and still not the precision I'd like. I guess dealing with thousandths for guitars I may
be expecting to much....naw...cheap dado blade lol.

If all goes well with the rabbit cuts I should have it finished this coming week and we'll
    see how it ends up.

Oh...I did find a cool site while looking for case fabric. http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts
sorry I have to put the link...my laptop doesn't show all the forum features. I even corrected
some of their wiring schematics since I was there LOL...I was checking the wiring kits they offer
and specifically the Strat 5-way with blender...is where I had to let them know they went south.

FYI - Those battery powered LED lights don't last long before you're putting in new batteries!

I know Craig. Thanks for the heads up though.
    I have some.
Not something I'd need to keep lit and easy enough
to add the DC kit later...they stick on like the battery ones.

    Re:Guitar display- 2012/06/10 16:14:31 (permalink)
Thank you James, Steve and Ed. I appreciate your support.

You may remember that when I built the guitar going into this
case I sliced open my index finger on my left hand with a router bit.
Well I just returned from the hospital...
I finally decided how I wanted the support to be. I figured the
bottom part of a guitar stand would be cool, clean and the best
    for the guitar.
I had to cut the metal so it would fit...while doing so my thumb
slid into the part of the reciprocrating saw that holds the blade...
It was very much like an explosion...it tore my left thumb nail off, cracked
the bone and tore the end of the thumb off.
I will be designing and installing a guard for the end of that tool.
I think it has six or seven stitches but it's ugly and I'm not going to post
    a photo....the saw is fine.

Fortunately I have insurance but it will still add a hundred or so to build cost and
things have slowed down. I will be on drugs later so if I post something or anything
out of my usual "spaceyness"...forgive me please. My ego has been damaged and
no telling how I will respond when survival mode kicks in. My wife and I did share
some pretty damn funny lines during the trip, when I wasn't crying, so yes- laughter
and jokes is well taken LOL.

Be careful my friends...some **** can really, really hurt ya...I know.

    Thank you ProjectM.

    Before and after.

The doc said it would look funny but the added
padding would be a very good thing...I sure in the
mood to agree with them....about everything.
I did check before the wrap...my thumbs are still the
    same length!

I still think the support is the way to go. Have to see
    it through.

Auch! Didn't read your entire post including the part about your thumb. That's terrible! I hope you'll recover nicely from that. That's got to hurt!!

All's cool Marius...lol...yes it hurt big time...I thought more than once I was going to pass out.
I somehow managed to keep control...I grabbed a trash can and contained most of the blood.
I made it out of the shop and got my wife so she was there to take me to the hospital-sure
glad I didn't have to make that 20 mile drive alone.

I did think at the time that no more than was holding the nail on it would be a good time to
pull it off...that part didn't go well either...I was wrong and as bad as it was hurting that didn't help lol.
