To answer the question... given my situation, I prefer the manual tremolo in the fingers and hand. Perhaps one day I will have something other then the Bigsby on the SG.... something that is actually usable in a definitive way, but till then... manually works for me.

Hi Herb, FWIW your tremolo on the SG is the genuine, official, name brand, "Gibson" "Vibrola". To the best of my knowledge it has nothing to do with Bigsby. The original Bigsby design hasn't changed much since it was introduced 50+/- years ago. They just have added various mounting options to the basic spring and pivot system. The "Vibrolo" was something Gibson did for them selves. Some think of it as an Omen. I still own one... and I sold another, on one of the very few guitars I have ever sold. BTW I also own a Jazzmaster tremolo system... The tremolo itself is super sweet for fast tickle moves but the Jazzmaster bridge is horrible for bold moves... that and the 7-1/2" radius fretboard keep it exciting to play... you're always wondering when you are going to knock a string out of the nut. I forgot about that one before. :-)

craigWhere's the 12 minute prog song? Now THAT would be fun! I don't have the 12 minute song via video...wish I did since it was an absolute blast to play on. I do have an audio of it though. Weirdest situation I ever been in, Craig. Not to derail the thread, but I needed a piano player on a song one time. I got this dude to play that was just insane. He wouldn't take any money from me but said "I'll need you to play on one of MY songs". So dumb me says "no problem, let me know man!" Well that day came. It's him, a drummer and a bassist and they always just played and wrote as a 3-piece without a guitarist. They were all like 20 years old at the time in like 2005 or 06. They start playing this jam and I sat there for nearly 2 minutes before I played a note to pick my jaw up off the floor. Absolutely amazing how well seasoned and prog these kids were. Every time I listen to that 12 minute song, it just blows me away how these dudes sound like seasoned pro's at their age playing this off the wall stuff that is loaded with melody and cool time changes. One of the rare times for me to where I almost opted out playing on this thing until they said "just be yourself and do what you do...that's what we want on this song." So I did...and it turned out pretty cool. :) -Danny

craigb Thanks for the replies! My luthier is partial to the Wilkinsons which is why I brought that one up. I'll have to go research the Gotoh's. Basically, I can put anything on the next custom guitar and, since Space Cowboy now owns the last guitar I had with a trem, I need one on the new axe. Here's my list of hopes and dreams: - I need the ability to toy with sounds (without bending the neck - lol!) - I can avoid the need to dive bomb - I might like a little play up but, for the most part, I only bend down - I don't want something that is always putting me out of tune or takes a lot of effort to maintain - I don't want something that sucks all the tone out of the guitar - I'd like something that doesn't dominate the front of a nice custom guitar with a ton of metal! (Not asking for too much I hope!) I have your guitar? Do you need it bak for the weekend? Ever look at kahlers?

space_cowboy So can I get change for an hour? Do you want two halves or four 15-minuters? I'm all out of seconds.
