Here is my latest. Took a while to get this one started. I'm glad I don't have to write on a schedule :)

Sometimes hard synths are easier to work with. The bass is, for the most part, my "old" Triton. The real-time knobs are a really cool way to modify the sound after I record the initial MIDI. The organ part is also the Triton, heavily modified by a stack of plugins, lol.

    Thanks for the listen!

Think this would work in a club.

For just listening I found the relentless thump and other percussion overwhelmed the other instruments which, for me, was a shame as they sounded interesting.

Thanks for listening! It really did start out as a dance track then morphed into a mix of dance and something more organic, so the thump was intentional. But I do understand where you are coming from. :)

Gypsys tramps and thieves... But every night all the men would come around? And lay their money down. I liked it, I wasn't a huge fan of the plug you have doing your synth violin. It was cool though when it got going really fast there. I would also recommend work to improve the drums/percussion.

    Hi Dan,

I found this track late last night (CET) yesterday and really liked it. Listening the 2nd time today, it sounds even better... great!
I think that simple 4 on the floor kind of beat works fine here.  It leaves space for all the other elements.
That violin sneaking in towards the end of the track is awesome!

    Keep on keepin' on,

Great stuff Dan!  I'm trying to learn more about EDM, ambient, etc. and Gypsy Dream is an inspiration to me.  Your textures and transitions are smooth as silk.  I also love your understated driving beat as well as the organic sounding violin leads.  Awesome!

I've been playing around with Omnisphere lately.  It's a beast!  It will need some serious taming, but I see a huge potential there.  Gotta keep trying to get my head around it. :)

Thanks Walt! Omnisphere is great. It's the first VST that would ever make me even consider going soft-synth only.

The violin is a Kontakt library that I fed through an amp to give it some grit, then ran through a chorus and delay. Tried to get that Jean-Luc Ponty sound. Thanks for the comments on the transitions; that took days of mixing and tweaking to get smooth. Glad it turned out well.

Actually, it is a library by Embertone called "Friedlander Violin". It's a really responsive solo violin library, that the sample guys would cringe if they knew how I abused their beautiful samples, lol.

Very nice Dan and you did get a Jean Luc Ponte sound if you ask me, I have everyone of his albums. Although his violin would stick out more the backing tracks seemed to flow nicely like his work flows. You did a great job with the arrangement and instrumentations. The mix sounded great and every was nice and smooth. Great piece you have hear.

I too like this production.  It offers more than just a beat and synth  parts - it is spatial and has nice creativity.  I would have liked the violin more natural sounding - it has some sharp peaks that are a little distracting.  Drums could use some fills here and there but no big deal.

    Nice work.

I brought the violin up and down to emphasize certain phrases. May be a bit too aggressive in one or two spots. I'll likely tweak the mix over the weekend because the staccato claps are starting to bug me a little (I hear it now Robby). I'm going to remove some and push them back a bit, particularly during the first half. I'll take another critical listen to the violin as well.

    Thanks!

    Regards,
    Dan
