H Zimmer Percussion | Spitfire Labs-11/2013

Looking forward to this:
http://www.spitfireaudio.com/novemberannouncement.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tLZ2Cuk1qs
PRICE TBC
RELEASE DATE: NOVEMBER 2013
Recorded at Air Studios via an unsurpassable signal chain. 96 rarefied microphones, into Neve Montserrat pre-amps, the world’s biggest Neve 88R desk (which was exhaustively re-gained at every dynamic layer for optimum signal quality), via a dual chain to HDX and Prism converters running at 192k. Over 30TB of raw data from these sessions alone.
The London Ensembles sessions feature the cream of Hans Zimmer’s hand picked percussion corps playing a distillation of a decade’s worth of musical experimentation and innovation. This is not an imitation of techniques explored in his numerous multi-billion dollar blockbuster back catalogue. It is a truthful recreation.
Each instrument has been mixed by a selection of long-serving Zimmer collabrators a selection of Grammy winning engineers for their own “take” on the Hans Zimmer experience, including Junkie XL*, Geoff Foster, Alan Meyerson, Steve Lipson* and Hans himself.
The library includes (at time of going to press)*:
TAIKO ENSEMBLE
BOOBAMS
LOW TAIKOS
BASS DRUM GALLERY
SURDO ENSEMBLE
TOMBEK ENSEMBLE
LOW BOOM
LOW BOOM GALLERY
TAMTAM
HIGH TAIKO
LARGE TAIKO
GONG DRUM GALLERY
DOHL ENSEMBLE
BOMBO ENSEMBLE PART 1
BUCKETS AND SNARES
BUCKETS AND CRUSHERS
BUCKET TOP AND DARBUKA
PIATTI
TIMPANI TRIO PART 1
PAPER DJUN
ANVILS
BOMBO ENSEMBLE PART 2
All drums have been recorded deeply with up to 9 Round Robins and 6 Dynamic layers per instrument. Most instruments have a variety of articulations, sticks and beaters as to recreate and expand on favourites from HZ’s private collection. The timpani ensemble should be of particular interest, it’s Hans’ take on how a kettle drum should sound. The resonance and cross chatter between three timps ringing in sympathy in one of the greatest recording spaces in the world will be the talking point of this library.
The library will be released with the above mentioned mixes alongside a cherry picked selection of mics from Geoff Foster for your own infinite tweaking and customisation.

This will probably be one of the greatest percussion libraries, but it will probably also be one of the most popular and soon to be overused ones...

That said, I'll probably get it myself at some point. :D

    Same here.
I'm interested in & anxious to hear HZ02 with Jason Bonham Live on the Newman Stage with Z's modular synth drums.

New info out, apart from the space needed for +200 GB of samples I'm looking forward to this.
    ---/
HZ01 Will be available to download on the 26th Of November 2013.

HZ01 ships in November as over 160GB of compressed content (from over 600GB of mixed and edited WAV data) and the initial release has material from Hans Zimmer, Alan Meyerson, and Geoff Foster.

Two free updates are following with Steve Lipson and Junkie XL’s material. The final library will be north of 200GB of compressed content (from over 700GB of mixed and edited WAV data)

THE PRICE FOR THIS AWESOME HISTORIC COLLECTION WILL BE £399 WHICH WE WILL REDUCE TO £299 FOR THE FIRST TWO WEEKS WITH AN ADDITIONAL 25% OFF VOUCHER FOR FUTURE PURCHASES.

The library consists of microphone positions, ‘perspective elements’ and full mixes (as detailed below) mixed in stereo and 5.1 by Grammy and Oscar winning engineers and producers: Alan Meyerson, Steve Lipson, Junkie XL, Geoff Foster and Hans Zimmer himself:

When you plug in and play this material you will experience a feeling not dissimilar to strapping into a freshly delivered Aston Martin (albeit with a choice of livery and paint work that you can repeatedly interchange and customise to your heart’s content).

We have recorded the following drums and articulations each with up to 9 round robins and 6 dynamic layers per hit, at Air Studios through the finest microphones, the finest Neve pre-amps into the Neve 88R desk via prism AD converters at 192k (which we have SRC’d to 24bit 48k).

Too rich for me, I'm afraid. I'll continue using Epic Battle, which costs 12 euros.

For many doing this type of production, making money & funding one's budget its not insane at all.
If this fits the bill I'm sure many will consider it a no-brainer.

Of course it depends on sound, function & usability. There are other good percussion libs as well. Hope there's a demo for it.

I wasn't actually questioning the price at all - I'll pay for quality.

Abion I (Spelling) is only 43gb uncompressed.  200 GB for a percussion sample library just seems - rather excessive.

Now Native Instruments has a pack coming out as well Action Strikes.  it certainly will not be of the highest quality that Spitfire produces but ....it will probably get the job done for me if I actually need something like that.  it's only 3gb (though it is $299).

my hard drives are screaming at me every time I even consider buying another sample library.

The Zimmer collection is probably going to cost a bomb. This is rather interesting though:

    http://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/orchestral-cinematic/action-strikes/

Granted this is $300 but I like the way it is very controllable in terms of playing. I bet the Zimmer collection won't have anything like this. You will have to program it all manually.

Watch the 10 minute video especially.

Actually if you go for the intro offer they're about the same price as NI.

If the quality of this is anything like Spitfire's other libs ( which i'm sure it is) I'll learn how to program them if need be.
    They're fantastic.

hey Carl if an intro price for the Zimmer collection is in this price range then yes it could be good. But I have not seen any prices mentioned anywhere as yet. Where did you get that info from? Just curious that is all.

Ok 399 pounds is $700 here and even at 299 pounds still $500 here. As I said it will cost a bomb. The NI offering is less than half the price and if it is mainly cinematic drums you are after it is going to do the job seriously well. Plus it contains a rather impressive interface for generating the rhythms as well. Something I don't think the Zimmer collection has. (not sure on that as yet)

I am already ratholing the funds... this is frickin' awesome!  Plus, it gives me the 25% off coupon to get Albion 3 which, if you've watched Danial James vid, is totally rad...

Just discovered Spitfire after discovering Sample Logic and snapped up all four of the $79 blowouts at Musician's Friend a bit ago... All while my rig is down... oh will it be fun come December.... Hope it rains so I'll be able to hole up in my studio for a month and write 24/7 for a month....
