HDD Crash, reinstalled Sonar, No or garbled sound

My hard disk crashed on my laptop. My bro lent me one he had sitting around, old as it may be. I was able to recover the data on the hard disk and transferred it to the "new" laptop. I installed the last version of Sonar that I have a license for, namely, X1 Producer Expanded. Then I installed the driver for my Presonus FP10. Set up my Preferences to point to my audio and picture cache folders, etc., and loaded up a previous project just to see if it would go without a hitch. Unfortunately, there was a hitch and I am not sure how to get around it. The very first song sounded extremely garbled. I closed down, rebooted and tried again. This time nothing played at all. Same for any project I load. So, I'm wondering if anyone has a basic troubleshooting checklist that I might go through. I am sure (or at least hoping) that I am just missing a little thing like playback bit rate or something that will make my problem just go away. Wadayafigur?

Garbled is a bit vague, not playing at all is clear but not diagnostic.

The first step would be to see if a new test project created, saved, and reloaded from your new sonar installation works as expected. That should at least tell you that the sonar installation is working. If that works:

Sus pcion falls on the old projects looking for dependencies (plugins, audio files etc.) in locations on the old drive, that are not exactly matched by name, drive letter, folder etc. on the new drive or that have not been mapped into Sonar by scanning for plugs etc.

You also need to patch X1 to at least X1c, preferably X1d, and watch out - there are separate installers for Expanded & non-Expanded.

You do not have to install X1a or X1b - these are rolled up in the X1c patch
