HELP! Cant get midi input to work with SY77

I´m a new member, and also new to computer music. I have an old Yamaha SY77 synthetizer and an USB 1x1 midiman midi-port. I have no problems playing midi files from the computer in the SY77, but i cant record anything with it in sonar, nor any other music software. I´m not sure if is a SY77 configuration problem or a Windows XP configuration problem... Please help me out with this...

    Obvious first question: Do you have both MIDI cables (In and Out) correctly connected to the SY77?

    Did you by any chance disable the SY to send MIDI (check the system setup parameters) - I think on some Yamahas it's possible to switch it off.

    Do you receive any MIDI activity from the SY? Check the little MIDI monitor (2 red dots) in your taskbar.

    Did you ever record any MIDI data via your midiman from any other device?

    Is the midiman active as In and Out in Sonar's MIDI options?
