HELP! -GUITAR TRACKS PRO 4 and WINDOWS 7

Hello all,

I have tried everything to get my GTP 4 to work on my computer, I'm assuming that it's because my operating system is Windows 7 as to why it is not working properly. I took my computer and software to Best Buy this morning and the Geek Squad tried for an hour to install - it installed the icons, and all of the files, but when you try to open GTP 4, it flashes on the screen very quickly and then goes away. They tried all of the compatibility mode stuff, etc.

Does anyone know any tricks to get this to work with Windows 7?

I really appreciate any and all of your help!

I'm running version 3 and cannot get it to install at all on Windows 7 (you click on the 'install' button and it simply kicks out).  The help sucks with Cakewalk... no one responds to emails.  I'm going to try and do what someone else recommends and copy the files into a folder onto the harddrive and then install from there.  Waiting to get my computer back... brand new and problems already, lol.  I was thinking of upgrading to version 4, but now I'm wondering if that's wise if you can't get it to work.

    Hi all,

GTP3 and earlier (GTP2, etc) will not have Windows 7 support. This is typical for all of our older versions of our products including SONAR Producer.

GTP4 has not gone through any Windows 7 testing in our QA department, however it should install and run with minimal issues.

GTP4 is *NOT* a native 64-bit application, however it will install and run in emulation mode. This also goes for Vista x64 operating systems. We've never supported XP x64.

    The complete list of our products that have official Windows 7 support is here;

    Hope this helps,

Why is Guitar Tracks Pro 4 listed on the site as ready for Windows 7?  I just ordered the upgrade, and $100 later may discover I may or may not make use of this program!!!!!

I too, have made several attempts to install GTP 4 into a Windows 7 OS and have had numerous glitches. Will there be any attempt by Cakewalk to modify and provide upgrades so that the product will be compatible? I'm a newbie to the DAW world and was really fired up about how well GTP 4 worked in my desktop XP OS. I had, as others did, seen on your website that GTP 4 WAS compatible which is why I invested in the new laptop. Now I'm concerned that I might be throwing my time and money away if I try the newer and more sophisticated products.
Please help restore my confidence in Cakewalk's integrity

There is a thread here on running GT3 on Vista. The same concepts apply to running GT4 on an unsupported OS as well. This should get you going. You can set up a VM and install a supported version of the operating system and you are off and running.

hmmm, I had no issues at all installing. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I actually installed twice with no problem. The second time was to install features I had unchecked the first time.

I have GTP4 w/UA-1G USB audio interface installed on a Win 7 home premium 64-bit AMD Turion X2 laptop.
No problems.  Initially had some problems with getting the UA-1G to be "remembered" as the default device, but that trouble seems to have passed.  Now, if I could just find some documentation on Studio Instruments.
The help in Guitar Tracks says to refer to online help, but provides not links.

I'm beginning to believe this online help does not exists.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with GTP4 and haven't had any problems. Took a little time to figure out how the new operating system stores the Studio Instruments, but other than that all seems to be working fine.

Slight Necro here, but this is the only thread I could find that is relevant to my issue...

Running Win7 32Bit Home Premium, installed GTP4, downloaded the update, installed, held CTRL to clear all the settings and refresh, and still... all that happens is the title screen flashes, it goes through a sequence of reading the VSTs, and thats it, nothing else.

The process still is still running in Task Manager, there is just nothing there... really kind of disappointed.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, and what have you done to work around it / fix it?

[ Compatability Mode was tried, running as admin etc etc... ]

    Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
    Intel Q6600 QuadCore 2.66GHz
    4MB of DDR3 RAM
    SoundBlaster XFi Titanium
    Line 6 TonePort UX1
    ATI HD5850
Guitar Tracks Pro 4.0    <---- This obviously doesn't work.  xD

    {Disregard the above... I plugged in my interface, the Ux1, Fired up GTP4, and it ran first go... wtf..? }

Not an answer, but just to verify, that I installed GTP4, on my HP Pavilion dv6, Windows 7 x64 Home Premium, with no problems, it installed it automatically in C:Program Filesx86. Mind you, I bought this laptop at Wal-Mart, in January '10. I had no previous knowledge with computers, let alone this kind of software, so I dont know if I got lucky, but just put in disc, and it installed.
Then about 2 mos. later bought UA-1G, and no problems there. I also have Sonar 8.5.3, bought box version of 8.5, and did all the updates, without a glitch one. So I dont think it's a Cakewalk issue, it must be getting its wires crossed, when installing. I saw that it wasn't fully supported by Win. 7, after I had installed it, because like others I saw that Cakewalk said it WAS Win. 7 friendly.
I hope you get it figured out, I just wanted to let people know that is working in Win. 7, like I said, glad it worked, or I would have thrown it away, I had no idea, what I was doing. Good luck, sorry no help!

    Hi guys,

We do have a patch for Guitar Tracks Pro 4 that addresses a few issues that Windows 7 customers may run into. It has been available for a while and when it was released it was posted as a sticky at the top of this forum (and I just checked it is still there).

    You can download it here:

    http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/reader.aspx?ID=2007012941

There are also Windows 7 drivers available for the UA-1G (32-bit and 64-bit for Windows 7) which you can download here:

    http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Interface/Page.aspx?ID=UA1G

    Hope this helps,
