HELP!!! I have no SCROLL LOCK key!
To get the PRV screen to scroll after editing notes you're supposed to hit the Scroll Lock key. Only I don't have one. It seems keyboards today feel it's unnessesary and have removed it. Some say use the Windows virtual keyboard. This does not work either. Since it seems most newer keyboards don't have this key, can we have the Scroll Lock functions in Sonar replaced with another key? I really need a quick way to make the screen scroll again, and there appears to be no option in the Keyboard shortcuts menu. Thanks, Steve

I just bought a keyboard yesterday and it still has a scroll lock key - it's up by the print screen key on my keyboard. That doesn't do a THING to help your situation, I just am not sure that I agreed with the 'most keyboards' statement as being entirely accurate. Could be - just don't know. Can't you go into the key bindings and change that key combo to something else? I would think that would solve your dilemma. Bob Bone

Well, I did say it seems most KBs don't have it anymore. At least none of my newer ones do. I have an old PS2 KB with one but it seems silly to have to hook up a 2nd KB with a USB adapter just to release the PRV scroll function. I don't have room on my desk for 3 KBs. I also mentioned that I can't find any reference to this function in the KB shortcuts menu. Now I'm scouring the interenet for a KB remapping utility... CRAZY!

I wasn't chastising you or anything - I just hadn't seen a trend to the removal of that particular key. Obviously SOMEBODY did it, or you'd have one. Let's hope they aren't trendsetters. :) I also do not know if the key bindings have this in there to change - I will take a look and let you know if I find it there. Bob Bone

I got to tell you, I don't get it either. I have never changed any of the key bindings, but it seems that if there is a key combination in there that does something, I ought to be able to see it in the list of existing bindings. I will spend some more time looking at it - I certainly agree with you thus far - CRAZY! Bob Bone

No offence taken. I was just clarifying the statement. Actually it IS a growing trend at least for laptops, where I do most of my work nowadays. But even my Logitech desktop KB has none. I bought it for the lighted keys which help me more than having a scroll lock key. I am perplexed that HP and others don't have a KB reassignment tool so one can utilize this function when needed. My request would be for software makers to not assign it to any functions or at least make the function reassignable. There are other useable keys. Currently the only way to make the PRV scroll again is to close and reopen the project. Steve

Got you. :) I do not know if this applies - it is under Clips Pane. When the Left Click Locks Scroll option is enabled (default behavior), the Clips pane will not scroll if you click any object in the Clips pane. When you are done with the edit and want the Clips pane to scroll again during playback, click in the background of the Clips pane to clear auto scroll lock. Would clicking off somewhere in the background make it start scrolling? A curious Bob

That option I was talking about is in the Track View, under Options>Click Behavior, and I guess you would un-check the option that says Left Click Locks Scroll so that it would start scrolling again. Give it a shot and let me know if that works for you (also, howdy FastBikerBoy) Thanks, Bob Bone

On the Logitech illuminated keyboard you do have scroll lock its FN +pause/break. Here is the help on this. Now if this is not the keyboard you have you may still find that a key combination will work.

heres your problem i may repeat it a few times so bare with me. when you make an edit in the prv while playback is moving,by default the prv will stop scrolling. its not a scroll key,nor a shortcut,,there isnt one. all you need to do to get it scrolling again is right click in the prv timeline, anywhere will do(only in the prv timeline) to reitirate: try right clicking in the PRV quick zoom area. in the timeline area... when making edits in the prv when the prv is in motion(playback) the prv will stop scrolling by default. to restart the prv(start scrolling again): simply right click in the timeline area of the PRV. i prefer the quick zoom area because this way it doesnt bring the right click menu up and i dont have to get rid of the RC menu. sorry if i havent read all the posts here,i just skimmed them. but i think this may be what your talking about.

on my laptop it's on the f12 key as "scr lk" *BUT* to access it on the acer you have to hit the "FN" key also.. suprised it's not on more kb's as it's part of old school terminal emulation e.g. vt100 onward etc surely ?

chuckebaby heres your problem... Thanks to all your efforts fellow Sonar forum members! It's appreciated greatly. However, none of these work arounds work for me. Not to worry though, because I DID find a partial solution. I downloaded KeyTweak KB remapper and reassigned my "play" key to scroll lock. Now I can turn PRV scrolling on and off but editing notes no longer freezes the screen. I have to hit the scroll lock key to to do that now. Still it's a step forward. Thanks again guys! Steve

My Toshiba laptop has the scroll lock hidden in the F12 key. I have to hold 'FN' and press F12 to use scroll lock. I think it is scroll lock anyway as it seems to be working that way.
