HELP!: SERIOUS glitch in TTS-1 softsynth and another glitch with the Wheel controller.
Hi, Background: Basically I was using the SI Bass softsynth to record a bass part (because my actual bass is too cheap). There is no way to choose which notes slide to each other in that, so I was going to pull the notes out (that needed sliding) to another track and put it's slide setting on (an option in the actual synth). I found that it was too slow for what I needed (wouldn't slide if the notes were in quick succession), so I thought I would use the Pitch Wheel controller. - Which didn't work. TTS-1 situation: I thought I would then try the TTS-1 synth and I found that adding a TTS-1 instrument COMPLETELY froze my ability to playback (the playback/record buttons are completely non-responsive). This is the most basic synth in Sonar so I knew that there is something seriously wrong. Additional Wheel issue: I did find that other synths allowed playback however NONE interacted with the wheel controller at all. - I would create wheel data and it was completely ignored (which completely screws me in my situation). What I have tried: I found these issues happen in ALL my sonar installations. 8.5, X1, and X2 I have the latest version of my soundcard drivers (M-Audio Audiophile 192). Please tell me what to do. I'm on a deadline and I'm screwed if I can't resolve this. Thanks.

Couple of quick questions:- What sampling rate are you running? How are you recording Pitch wheel movements?

Must have info: Your system specs and ids this producer or studio or what. Reason I ask: Do you have Dimension Pro?

What sampling rate are you running? 192 How are you recording Pitch wheel movements? I am drawing them in manually in the controller panel under the piano roll (and I know how to do this correctly). The wheel events are showing in the event list panel but are all grayed out (I don't know if that's relevant).

I have win 7 x64 running on a beast of a computer. - I can't remember the name but it's a dual CPU computer (not dual core) with 16 gig ram also. My versions are the producer versions and I don't know if I have Dimension pro (name doesn't ring a bell at all).

TTS doesn't work well at 192. You can try changing it to Light Load Mode In System/Options. This is the cause of your TTS problems, but not the wheel problems. I'll have a look as soon as I get to my studio.

Also I am able to record midi data from both my electronic drum kit and external syth (both are triggered without issue also).

If you have Producer, you have Dim Pro.

I just need to get a sliding effect at specific points in a bass synth. Also the bass part is the only midi driven part in the song. There are heaps of layers of normal Audio (which have already been recorded at 192).

Just want to check something. When you are drawing the wheel movement are you going to the drop down menu under the PV and choosing "New Value Type" from the pop up menu, then in the MIDI Event Type window choosing: Type - Wheel, Value 26 Bend Range? Is Channel set correctly? Sorry if you know all this. I don't know what you do or don't know and am just looking for a solution.

Yes I'm doing that but I don't see "Value 26 Bend Range" anywhere. Should that be in the dropdown box next to that one? - The 2nd dropdown is completely empty. I have both the track and wheel assigned to channel 1.

On choosing "New Value Type" from the drop down menu, it should open the "MIDI Event Type" window. This sould have threehoices, from left to right - "Type" "Value" & "Channel". Under that, are "OK" and "Cancel" buttons. By default they should show "Control" "1 Modulation" & "Channel 1". Are you no seeing that?

Yes I checked again and I have absolutely no value options available when I select Wheel. The Value dropdown is disabled and grey when I select Wheel.

I just replied at the same time as you.. Yes I see that but there are no values at all available for Wheel. Control, RPN, and NRPN all have selectable values available. "Chanaft" also has none.

Just tried it with SI bass, and I get the same - value isgreyed out. I had tried it with TTS 1, where it wasn't. Just check the notes in the PRV and check that they are also set to Channel 1. Click on one and look at the Event Inspector.

Are you using Simple Instrument Track or separate MIDI and Synth track?

I am just using them from the available templates.. So the SI Bass can never be affected by a pitch wheel??? In reality I know very little about virtual synth's because I have never needed them. I learnt how to draw pitch data from a video tutorial on youtube..

Ok I tried it on Trilogy the bass plugin and it works there. I'm sure I can find a suitable bass sound there. Only problem now is that the pitch wheel only spans 2 notes. If you know a way to increase it's sensitivity please let me know. Thanks.

Pitch bend wheel works on SI bass. As does drawing them. I've been checking these things as I talked to you. How did you insert SI Bass? I usually click the + button in the Browser, choose "Insert Soft Synth" "SI Bass" etc. You then get a dialogue box, and can choose (amongst other things) "Simple Instrument Track" or "MIDI Source" and a choice of "First Synth Out" etc. etc.. Anyway, for now, click on a note in the PRV of the SI Bass track and look in the "Events Inspector" in the control bar at the top of X1 or X2. What channel is it showing? If it is not the same as the channel you drew the wheel controls in, then that is the problem. It's nearly 2 A.M. here, so need to head off to bed soon. If I don't hear back tonight, I'll check in tomorrow. P.M. me, if you want. I

I just sent this to you in PM but I got a big error messages saying "server error" after I clicked send (I don't know if you got it). I sent it to your PM because you said I could and it was kind of off topic to this thread.. Hi, Firstly, sorry for not responding to your final post. I never received the notification email for some reason (saying you had). Basically I found that bending the notes was completely inadequate (it sounded completely fake). This was in part with the way the VI was designed. Looking online I discovered the company had massively upgraded their VI in a new plugin "Trilian". It can do everything I need, however I am getting massive popping and clicking (completely unusable on a practical level). I have set my buffer size to 4096 but this only helped marginally. It's definitely not a memory issue because it shows how much of my memory it's using. It was apparent that you have great experience with VI's so I thought you may know a way around this. Is there a way to bounce it to a fully audio version somehow? I appreciate the help. I really do need a solution to this.

Hey, I tried sending a reply twice but I got the server error 2 times just now. This time it's not showing in my sent box either. I keep getting automatically unsubscribed from this also for some reason... This is what I tried to send just now: Hey, * Yes it streams a lot of samples from the disk (the plugin is 32 gig). * I installed the samples on to the C drive. - Should I move them? * My interface is an M-Audio Audiophile 192. * I am only running this softsynth (and won't be using any others). I tried both bouncing methods you mentioned and it removed about 95% of the popping/clicking. It's enough to keep me working for now but I will need to figure something out for the final midown. - Any ideas? Thanks.
