HELP! Sonar stopped playing audio

Hi. Please Help!

Just installed sonar 6 HS XL on an XP machine. Installed driver for Edirol ua-25 audio interface. All was working perfectly. I record a simple project, two guitar tracks and one soft synth track. Applied some FX, all was working well!

The all i did was unplug the usb cable for the interface and go and do some web browsing.

When i plugged the usb cable back in and re srated sonar nothing!

the line moves along the project but no audio comes out. If i switch to console view the meters arent moving, suggesting that it's not properly going through the system?

The audio interface is working fine with the rest of windows and the internet etc.

I've uninstalled the driver for the ua25 and reinstalled it correctly but still the same problem. Checked all the audio settings in sonar and windows and they are all correct.

I tried a new project thinking maybe this one was somehow corrupt but i couldn't even get a soft synth to play (Checked all the midi inputs and outputs too)

Please help, it's driving me mad!

Ben

Look at your master bus. Is the output going to the right place? Look at your devices and make sure the edirol is checked and at the top.

Did you try restarting Sonar or the whole PC with the interface connected?
Does the interface work ok with other programs?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Yes I've tried full system restarts. As I said, the interface is working perfectly with the rest of windows and YouTube etc.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. Yes the edirol is checked in the master bus. As i said, the meters in console view aren't responding so i don't think it's a case of the audio being outputted to the wrong place, more that sonar isn't functioning correctly.

This problem comes up every so often on this forum (yes, it happened to me too!). Oddly, Windows has a habit of resetting itself when you change system configuration (yes, just unplugging a USB port can cause havoc!). Generally, the answer lies either in the output setting on the tracks within Sonar or with the Windows Audio settings. I wrote this on a previous similar problem:

"have you looked at the Windows Audio settings? I have had similar problems to you in the past and found my solution there. I work in XP. In XP, I open Control Panel and then Sounds and Audio Devices. I then click on 'Advanced' on the Device Volume tag. There should be four sliders on the mixer that opens - Volume Control, Wave, SW Synth and CD Player. What may be happening is that the Volume Control slider is set OK and therefore the Sound system works fine outside Sonar. But if the Wave and SW Synth sliders are set very low or at zero, you will hear nothing in Sonar as SW Synth controls Midi volume while Wave controls .wav volume. For some odd reason, these sliders have a habit of resetting themselves to zero for no reason at all!"

Also check the "Audio" tab in Windows Sounds and Audio Devices - is the sound playback default device set to your sound card?

Other possibilities are with the output setting on the tracks within Sonar (what are they set to?) or the tracks may be "muted" (is "M" highlighted?).

Kalle - I'm a total idiot! I'd checked that master bus was outputting to UA25 but none of the indiviual tracks actually had an output! Why this had changed when i hadn't been in the project i dont know!

Anyway thanks again for the prompt and getting me to check that again.

Thanks to everybody for all your replies - Sorry i'm such an idiot and sorry for wasting your time. I feel so foolish!

I'm sure we've all had that sort of thing happen. I know I have. Glad you got it figured out.
