not to be glib....but it could be any number of possible things...a lot of possibilities. To start with, make sure your audio card is receiving signal from the instrument...then open Cakewalk go to Options/Audio tab and make sure your drivers are enabled. If they are, make sure the sample and bit rate are set in Cakewalk to match your audio card. etc. There are many things that could happen...so perhaps check out some of the tutorials in Cakewalk or here on the site to see what you are missing out.

First do a test and just see if you can record and hear it when it plays back and see the wav in track view. If you can then it's just a matter of turning on input monitoring in Sonar. However, you may also have some delay (latency) when doing that. So you may need to adjust the latency as low as you can. We can cover that later.

There is a work around for latnecy. The Firewire 410 has a built in mixer you can control with the software control panel that installs with the driver. You can use that mixer to monitor the input your guitar is in and still hear Sonar at that same output. However, you will not hear any of the effects in Sonar that way till you stop and playback.
