HELP with MIDI/Session 3

Hey guys,

I'm having some trouble with recording my session drummer three tracks. originally, i wrote them as a simple instrument track which played back perfectly with no midi source(obviously). i then learned that in order to record my tracks as audio i would have to select midi source, track folder, and all synth outputs: stereo. the controller i'm using currently, but haven't set up at all besides having the midi plugged into my ua 25 ex, is the korg m50. the manual for this synth proved to be pretty confusing, so i was just wondering if anyone on here could just give me a more direct explanation of how to set up the midi on my keyboard so that it plays back my tracks on session drummer. furthermore, is there anything else i would have to do to set up session drummer so that it's ready to record the midi data? any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

Well, no not "obviously."  How were you hearing the drum tracks as you put them together if you didn't have a synth being triggered by the MIDI track-?

"...i was just wondering if anyone on here could just give me a more direct explanation of how to set up the midi on my keyboard so that it plays back my tracks on session drummer..."

Yes, like any soft synth, you need to set up an instance of the drums, and have both MIDI and Audio communicating with that synth.  Go to the Help files and look at one of the basic Sonar 101 tutorials--"How to use a soft synth"--all the info is right there.

Using Simple Instrument Track you need to click on the track number to select both MIDI and audio sectioons. Clicking the track only selects MIDI and leads to an error message "...selection includes no audio."

The MIDI tracks aren't actually recorded to audio, they are either Bounced or Frozen.

Have you done the tutorial about using soft synths? The basic workflow is quite straightforward:

Keyboard MIDI onto a SONAR MIDI track (or a dragged MIDI drum beat from Session Drummer) > output to soft synth > Audio Track with soft synth as input.

If you want the SD drum patterns to be played with your Korg M50's sounds you need to connect the MIDI from your computer to Korg (two ways: MIDI to PC, MIDI from PC to Korg). And if you want the Korg sounds to be recorded, you need to connect the Korgs audio outs to PCs audio ins.

Your post seems to contain a lot of confusion, so much actually, that I'm not quite sure what you have done and what you know. Track folders, for example, have nothing to do with the routing of MIDI or audio.
