HELP with X1 in Brisbane (Northside) - prepared to pay.

Hello there fellow Cakewalkers..... I need some help and I'm prepared to pay for it.

I'm using computer based recording for the first time (Sonar X1) having migrated off my old BR1600cd hard disk recorder.

I'm using a VS100 audio interface and have a A-500 midi keyboard controller.

I am having no end of trouble trying to get Superior Drummer 2 to work - just can't quite grasp the whole channel in and out thing.

Session drummer works fine but when I do the same thing with SD2 - i get no sound.  None of the fixes from the support teams have worked so I was hoping there was an expert user out there in Brisbane that could pop over to my place and help me out.

I will pay for the help.....  is there anyone out there willing?

Fingers crossed....

John

I'm willing. I'll do it for free, all I need is a first class return to Heathrow and a month's accommodation.

Seriously though welcome to the forum, you'll find there's plenty of help here mixed in with the BS.

What trouble exactly are you having? I don't use SD2 but it sounds like it could be a routing issue. You'll need to make sure that the audio output of SD2 is routed to an audio track 'IN' in Sonar. That track then needs to be routed to your main out either directly or via a buss.

Are you using an instrument track with SD2 or a MIDI track with separate audio?

Okay. If it's a straight MIDI track you need to make sure that MIDI tracks "output" is set to SD2. It's a drop down box in the track header. Make sure that the widget setting (at the top of the track view) is set to "All" or "I/O" or you won't see the drop downs.

You then need a corresponding audio track and the input of that should be set to the output of SD2, again it's a selection made from the drop box on the audio track input. Make sure the output of the audio track either goes directly to you interface main outs or to a buss that ultimately ends up at your interface outs.

Assuming you don't have any tracks Solo'd or muted and your interface is turned up you should then hear any output from SD2.

Try that if you get stuck shout up, hopefully someone using SD2 will jump in with more specifics.

Well - give it a week or so on the forum.  People here can be very helpful.

If that fails then I'm in BNE and may be able to help.  We'll see how we go.

John, if you don't have this sorted in a few hours, I'll post up a small video for you that will show you how to do it. I'll check back in later on to see how you are making out with this...but if you get stuck, the vid will totally help you out on this unless there is some sort of issue on your end. I have a meeting that will last a few hours right now, but I'll check this thread when I get back and if you need the video, I'll take care of it for you. Best of luck.

The midi notes come into the midi track from the midi keyboard. Are you getting a midi note signal to the SD2 midi track?

Once you have midi notes coming into the midi track, they get sent to the audio track, which has the VST Plugin loaded (SD2). The midi notes go through the plugin, trigger the respective recorded drum samples, and the audio is sent out of the audio track to the master output (or drum bus) and to your speakers.

    Things to make sure:

For the audio track, make sure you have loaded the SD2 VST and selected a kit.

Set the midi track's Input to the A-500 keyboard
Set the midi track's Output to SD2 in the list

Midi Keyboard set to OMNI (all channels mode)

Select the Input Echo button on the midi track to hear what you are playing. Be sure to select the midi track in the track view as well.

It's kind of complicated but not really. Hang in there and you will get it.

Here's a get started midi site if you want to learn more about midi and how it works.
