    Doubtful.

    But I've been wrong before.

Isn't Ableton Live really good for that type of work?

Oh... you want it to actually write for you? That's no fun... but yeah... I'd check out Ableton anyway. You can download a free demo from their site.

Ableton is more geared toward performing live otherwise like Sonar it's just a DAW, it won't write anything.

Nothing is going to do the work for you.

Band in the Box will however make styles from midi clips so you are not limited to the styles that come with it you can define your own for whatever genre.  From there it's a great tool for prototyping your arrangement in what ever style you've defined.  I'd say from the question as posed that is the best solution you are going to get.

Sorry, can't get my head past the conundrum of "Hip Hop" and "song creation" being in the same sentence...

Isn't that what those (sometimes) dreadful loop libraries are for?

@Jonbouy... Yeah, I don't think I could bring myself to put my name on something as a songwriter if I just punched in some parameters and let the computer do the work for me. Currently I'm working on my first little X1 experiment and all I've been doing is dragging loops (all content included with X1) into TV and manipulating them how I want there. It's more for getting my workflow happening and just learning what's where and how to use it as far as basic functions. I know this is how many artists write these days but to me as flesh and nail music dork it just feels like cheating. I want to construct my own beats and then put my live performances over top of that. If I could afford some V-Drums I'd probably use those instead for my percussion... but I can't so this will have to do for now.

All joking aside, one of my favorite genres is trance which could obviously be done with a lot of canned loops, however I only use those for ideas and placeholders.  Once I have something I like I recreate all the loops with original material (I love making synth noises!).  Plus, I also already have V-Drums (fun stress relief!).

if u put half the energy used to criticize me into actually reading my post...maybe you'd be in a better position to answering the f_c_ing question.

never sed I wanted something to do the work for me...sed I was looking for a songwriting aide similar to band in a box.  first of all, I go into that app w/ a complete chord & lyric chart under my belt; & knowing the melody (and the arrangement I want) cold..i.e., complete tunes.  and besides, I never stated what I do to finish the process, which is to bring the midi tracks into sonar & replay most everything myself live (piano, bass, drums, guitar).  i just use this program as a songwriting aide, that's all.

    holy crap, what critics
