Thank you !
I see some keeps the Sudio Monitors standing (Vertically) and some places Horizontally.
I wonder why?

IIRC, There's been several threads about (home) studio pictures. I don't remember if they've been here or in Coffee House, though.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Mostly convenience and making things "fit".  You can get both sets of monitors in place without making a skyscraper and messing up the sound field as bad on the upper monitors.  There are a few monitors made to be placed horizontal but the ones that aren't specifically made for it it is simply a compromise to lay one set down.

From these two pictures, the take away for someone new to the game should be:
1)a sufficiently powerful computer
2) a good audio interface with phantom power.
3) treatment of the room to minimize reflections that hard walls produce.(lots of options here, from homemade to professional products)
4) good nearfield audio monitors
4) a big enough screen that you can see what's going on
the rest is acquired as you go along.

Treatment of the room - That's the toughest, I think. I may be wrong.

There are a lot of people that have done DIY, and there are some good products out there commercially as well. Look at some big music retailer, like Guitar Center, Sam Ash, Sweetwater, etc. and search acoustic treatment. In the meantime, some strategically placed blankets will go a long way toward helping. They won't be bass traps, but you'll be able to tell what is working by clapping your hands and listening for the reflections.

Re: HOME STUDIO - Setup 2015/12/01 20:37:28 (permalink)

This is the way it looked a year ago,, it's about the same but with 2x as much junk on the shelves and desk... It's not ideal so I will be moving to a different location in the same room where I'm not in a damn corner like this. I will also be treating my room with the re do. I will also panel one wall with T&G Cedar.
There's so much junk and stuff that it absorbs any reflections right now. The junk will be put in cupboards with doors and I'll have a view of the mountains from my new location. This is in my attic/ loft which has a 12/ 12 pitch on one side and a 6/12 on the other ( Saltbox) . The middle is 12' high and there are 5' pony walls. So it makes it all uneven which is ideal for sound reflections... square rooms are the worst to treat.
I carpeted it 25 years ago with 1" heavy duty underlay.

Should the Bass Trap 1. Angular [filling the corner] or 2. Flat board type having triangular space behind them ?
I hope the question is correct.

I'd go with a flat panel at least 6" (15cm) thick, 24" (60cm) wide, straddling the corner.  Air behind a panel is almost as good as absorption.  Some people fill the corner which is easy to do, and effective because it's automatically thick (as long as it's wide enough), but if it's an outside corner in a building which experiences cold winters, you may get condensation on your walls (behind all that insulation), which you don't want.

The advantage of flat panels is you can move them around and use them in all sorts of other ways.  They also don't damage your walls as much as building in the corners.
