HOW TO DO I COMP MULTIPLE TRACKS AT ONCE - Like drums?

I think I've read this somewhere so if it clearly outlined somewhere a link to it is fine.  Otherwise, how can I comp a group of tracks at the same time like say multiple drum takes or guitar takes with multiple mics?   THANKS!

Well hopefully in the recording preferences you set "grouping" to "group all clips" or "group only clips in folders" before you started recording. Then all clips from a single take will be automatically linked and comping one comps all the others. If not... tough luck. You can group them by hand but it can end up being a lot of work and you need to be very meticulous.

EDIT: FWIW I wish this option was enabled by default or at the very least "group only clips in folders" was enabled by default. Somehow it's not. I find it hard to think of a situation where I would track multiple instruments/tracks at the same time and not consider them being part of the same take.

I do this a lot. But having the foreknowledge that I am going to do this, I make a few preparations ahead of time to make it easier.

1. Go to Preferences>Record (Under Project).
2. Towards the bottom, select "Only Group Clips in Folders" under Multi-track Grouping.
3. Select Apply and close the Preferences window
4. Put all of my armed tracks in a folder

Now, as I record (in Comping mode, with mute previous takes selected as well in Preferences>Record) everything is automatically grouped.

Later, when I open Take Lanes to comp the best parts, I select the "Clip Headers" to ensure that when I select a clip, the all clips in that group are also selected. So even though I may only have the "Snare" drum visible, I am assured that all other drums in that group are selected. When I comp like this, all 14 of my drum tracks are comped right along.

Yes you can group takes after the fact. Select clips in corresponding take lanes of each track, right-click and choose 'Create selection group from selected clips'.

THANKS!   The bad news is I did not know to set that option but the good news is that my question is more for future recordings so now that I know....   I may try to do it manually just to see how well that could work in case  I need to go back.   I does seem that the option to group clips in folders should be default as other than basic organization and mass soloing, there are not a lot of other obvious benefits to grouping but this is a huge benefit .

It does seem that the option to group clips in folders should be default...

It's a per-project setting so it'll save with project templates.

Actually selecting and grouping by hand is not all that bad. I have had to do it from time to time. I select all the tracks in question and cntr-click the expand take lanes. Then I take the first take lane and select the first clip. you then scroll and cntr-click the associated clips from the other takes, right click and hit group clips. You should now be at the bottom of your tracks. Start with the next take lane in the last track and work your way up selecting associated clips and then group them.  A bit tedious but once it is done it will save you a lot of time comping
