HP Elitebook 8730w for Sonar?

I've been saving up for a new computer, and I'm almost there, but it turns out that my son is giving me an HP Elitebook 8730w laptop.  This is a pretty badass computer, I gather, with (I believe) an intel Core 2 quad processor and 8 gigs of RAM, way better than what I have now.  But is it enough?  Can I get more or less optimum performance from 8.5 and/or X1, assuming moderate to heavy use of Kontact and SampleTank, plus several instances of Guitar Rig and Amplitube 3?  Or should I keep squirreling away the dough?  Time will tell, I suppose, (it hasn't arrived yet) but I'd love to hear from someone knowledgeable.

Clint, if you're getting the lappy regardless..... give it a try, but I'd keep saving.

My Dell has a dual core and it struggles when all the heavy synths and FX get in there.  A couple of GR's with Kontakt thrown in for good measure....... ?????

My lappy squeals under that sort of load, but it has a much lower amount of RAM though.....

I saved and built a Tower DAW. Pretty awesome kit.

Several instances of Guitar Rig and/or Amplitube are the ones that might make you want to keep saving for something faster.  Like Guitarhacker said, give it a try and then you'll know.

HP EliteBook 8730w is a elevated-end, portable workstation class notebook. It offers high-end options such as a quad-core portable processor and color accurate LCD. It’s a great more stylish.
