HW completed -time to think "dual boot"

As the header states my PC is all "assembled" and it is now time to
start installing software.

First thing: Configuration of a dual boot sytem using W7 Pro 64Bits & XP 32bits.

One contraint: I will install W7 and all audio related software on my SSD drive. XP will be installed on a specific partition of a sata drive.

Not that I really want to spend a lot of time on XP but a friend of mine told me and I have read this in different forums that the installation order matters; the consensus seems to be that XP should be installed first followed by7.

Since I'll put the OS on different drives does the order of installation matter?

Is there anything I should be really careful with?

Cheers

Mario

Note: I am aware about the lost of  "recovery points" but since I've never used them I don't want to waste time on this

There is an order if you want Windows to set up the dual boot.  Otherwise it doesn't matter since they are totally separate.

I would just install them and not even try to set up Dual Boot.   Then install the free EasyBCD program  HERE and set up dual boot with that.

When I installed Win 7, on a separate hard drive from my Vista 32 bit installation I didn't initially setup a dual boot.  But later I used the Easy BCD (installed in Win 7) and did set it up, and it works good.

I had initially set up dual boot as I was leery of Sonar working in Win 7 OK.  But as it turned out everything worked OK in Win 7 and I never have had to go back and use the Vista 32 bit/Sonar for anything.  About 2 months ago I removed the dual boot and just boot into Win 7.  I still have the Vista 32 bit and can boot to it if I want but it's not in the boot path.

Do you find yourself using XP a lot, or is XP Mode (in Win 7) sufficient?

Personally, I've found that it doesn't matter too much.  Windows has repaired it every time it's needed to.
If there's any problems you can always modify the boot parameters anyway in either operating system.

If I'm wrong someone'll let you know, but as I say, I've never had too many difficulties.

I'm in the same boat as fireberd, except that I dual-boot between WinXP and Win7-64 on the same drive. But the Win7 deployment went very well and I never have to boot to the XP partition.

If I did it over again, I would probably just save an image of the XP partition and just go with Win7 all the way.

    BTW, +1 on Easy BCD.
